Senior Performance & Energy Systems Engineer
As a Senior Performance & Energy Systems Engineer, you will do hands-on work and provide technical leadership of technology programs in development and research of advanced energy systems. You will develop ideas and concepts to integrate, improve performance and operability of various energy generating, energy consuming and energy storage systems, including but not limited to Gas Turbines, Steam Turbines, Aero-derivatives, Nuclear, Solar, Storage and Carbon Capture/Utilization Systems. You will interact with technologists and engineers to lead technology programs, develop and deliver novel solutions for complex, multi-disciplinary problems in the broad area of energy systems. This is a high impact and high visible role with tight deadlines requiring extremely quick turn-around times, often needing to work with limited inputs/data and huge opportunities for creativity and innovation.
Roles and Responsibilities
Steady-State and Transient Performance modeling of conventional gas turbines, steam turbines, aero-derivatives.Process-modelling of low-carbon energy technologies including advanced power cycle, (supercritical CO2 cycle), refrigeration cycle, blue hydrogen generation system, fuel cell/electrolyser, carbon-capture technologies including liquid-solvent, adsorption technologies, and energy storageTechno-economic analysis (with focus on energetics/CAPEX) and optimization of the energy systemsHeat integration and preliminary sizing of heat exchangers, turbomachinery andBalance of plant equipment.
Deliver on technical projects with set timelines and cost, implement plans with minimal guidance to meet technical requirements and assure proper documentation of the sameOwn significant technologies of the overall energy systems performance modeling roadmap and ensure rapid development/maturation across TRLs and eventual deployment in current GE Vernova Products and future products .Relentlessly drive innovation, connecting ideas across multiple technology domains. Influence research directions based on unmet industry needs. Lead Session-T discussions. Publish White Papers and Position Papers as needed.Influence and convince decision-makers to consider and adopt ideas emanating from the team.Network and collaborate with both GE Vernova engineers, Vernova Advanced Research team members to build plans and execute on technical projectsProvide Technical leadership of a team on multi-generation technology programs to enable future design advancements, while independently executing tasks leveraging your technical skills.Tasks include, but not limited to:Technical program leadership and project management to deliver and deploy technology solutions to address challenging needs of the businessAdvanced modeling and simulation, including simplified and high-fidelity analysesDevelop ideas and concepts to improve cost, performance and operability of energy systems.Develop and implement hardware for testing and validation, where applicableRequired Qualifications
Doctorate in Mechanical Engineering/Chemical Engineering/Thermal Engineering with at least 8 years of post-doctoral experience OR a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering/Chemical Engineering/Thermal Engineering/Energy Engineering with at least 15 years of research industry experienceFundamental knowledge in thermodynamics, performance and process modelingHands-on work on steady state and transient performance modelling and controls development Hands-on work on Heat Transfer and Thermal ManagementSound understanding of Gas Turbine and Steam Turbine Power Plant Equipment, including Balance of Plant Equipment and SystemsExperience in using in-house codes and relevant commercial/Open software on Power Plant Performance Modeling (NPSS, Ebsilon, ALPRO etc.)Understanding of Energy Transition Space and technologies/solutions to navigate the transitionSolid understanding of Technology Readiness Levels and Technical Competitive AssessmentDemonstrated Creativity and Innovative Problem Solving Abilities.Solid understanding of energy transition, decarbonization, fuel cells and storagePassion towards IP Landscape, White Space identification and Patents.Demonstrated ability to quickly learn new, unfamiliar technology areas and to abstract system level conceptsExcellent oral and written communication skillsDemonstrated ability to work in a matrix environment, interact with multiple stakeholders and prioritize the tasks.Desired Characteristics
