We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Senior Physical Security Specialist with expertise in Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) to join our Ontario Line team. This role is responsible for assessing related submittals, planning, and supporting the implementation by contractor’s physical security measures to safeguard personnel, assets, and property while minimizing the risk of crime and ensuring compliance with security standards.
The ideal candidate will have experience applying CPTED principles to design and optimize security strategies, focusing on crime reduction through environmental and architectural interventions.
Key Responsibilities:
CPTED Implementation: Apply CPTED principles to evaluate existing security systems and design enhancements that reduce the opportunity for crime and enhance safety. Provide recommendations for environmental design improvements such as lighting, landscaping, access control, and surveillance systems.Risk Assessment: Conduct security audits and vulnerability assessments to identify potential risks and threats within physical spaces. Provide actionable reports and solutions to improve security effectiveness.Security System Design and Integration: Collaborate with architects, engineers, and facility managers to incorporate security features in the design and construction of buildings, entry points, parking areas, and external environments.Surveillance and Monitoring: Evaluate and recommend technologies such as CCTV, alarm systems, and access control solutions. Ensure proper integration of physical security systems to provide real-time monitoring and response capabilities.Security Policies and Procedures: Develop and implement security policies, protocols, and procedures related to physical security and access control. Ensure compliance with local laws, regulations, and organizational standards.Training and Awareness: Train staff and stakeholders on CPTED principles and the role of environmental design in crime prevention. Conduct workshops to improve the understanding of physical security measures and their importance in maintaining a safe environment. Prepare and provide presentations to clients on specifically how to conduct Security Risk Assessments.Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with contractor physical security leads, facility management teams, and other stakeholders to ensure comprehensive security coverage. Lead or participate in security-related meetings and projects.Incident Response: Analyze incidents to identify areas for improvement in security practices.Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Security Management, Architecture, Urban Planning, or equivalent education/related professional work experience. Certifications in CPTED, Physical Security, or Security Management are a plus.Minimum of 15 years of experience in physical security, crime prevention, and related fields.At least 10 years of experience specifically applying CPTED principles in security system design or urban planning, including a minimum of 5 years rail transit related experience.Proven track record in conducting risk assessments, implementing security measures, and managing security projects.Strong understanding of CPTED principles and their application in physical security.Knowledge and application of security standards such as APTA SS-SIS-S-017-21:2021 Security Risk Assessment Methodology for Public Transit, and ISO 22341 Security And Resilience – Protective Security – Guidelines For Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design, or similar standards considered a plus.Proficiency with security technologies (CCTV, access control, alarm systems, etc.).Ability to interpret building plans, architectural drawings, and security blueprints.Knowledge of relevant local, provincial/state, and federal regulations regarding security and safety.Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders.Certified Protection Professional (CPP)Physical Security Professional (PSP)CPTED certification (or equivalent training)Familiarity with emergency response planning and crisis management.Experience with smart technologies and automated security systemsAbility to conduct site inspections and assessments in various environments, including office buildings, industrial sites, and outdoor spaces.Ability to lift and carry equipment up to 25 kilos.Travel to different sites or locations may be required.Required QualificationsBachelor's degree in related field 10 years related experience A minimum of 5 years of project management experience Familiar with Microsoft Office, estimating and scheduling software, project management softwareMust have the ability to interact with various design teams, have excellent organizational, project management and communication (both written and verbal) skills An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
