Job Description

Mission Technologies (MT), a division of HII, is seeking to hire a Senior Physicist to support operations at the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL).  

 

This full-time position is on-site at NRL on the Maryland side of the Potomac near the southern-most part of  Washington DC.

Essential Job Responsibilities

Conducts research into phases of atomic and molecular, nuclear, solid state, thermal, and other physical phenomena. Develops theories and laws based on observed results of experiments and predicts phenomena based on theoretical considerations in areas of application such as acoustics, electricity and magnetism, electronics, heat, light, mechanics, radiation, optics, and lasers.

Minimum Qualifications 9 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 7 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; 4 years relevant experience with PhD or Juris Doctorate in realted field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 13 years relevant experience Experience conducting research into phases of atomic and molecular, nuclear, solid state, thermal, and other physical phenomena  Developed theories and laws based on observed results of experiments and predicts phenomena based on theoretical considerations in areas of application such as acoustics, electricity and magnetism, electronics, heat, light, mechanics, radiation, optics, and lasers Must be able to participate and lead in team-based research and development Must be able to communicate orally and in written reports and peer-reviewed publications Able to obtain and maintain a US level Secret clearance  Preferred Requirements

 Experimental physicist:

Experience fielding and carrying out experiments on pulsed power generators or capacitor banks, designing and fielding loads on pulsed power generators, designing and fielding diagnostics on pulsed power generators, radiation diagnostics, and generator design and operation Expertise in developing, diagnosing, and controlling plasma sources Experience in applying modern data collection and analysis techniques  An active US level Secret Clearance

 

Theoretical physicist:

Experience using analytic and numerical techniques for problem solving, and knowledge of 2D and 3D electromagnetic particle-in-cell codes, 2D and 3D magnetohydrodynamic codes, and single particle orbit codes Experience in carrying out the theoretical research and data analysis for the project, programming experience could include writing, upgrading, debugging, and implementing software on a variety of computers, ranging from desktop personal computers to large-scale parallel processing architecture Demonstrated experience with interfacing and networking data collection devices with various computers An active US level Secret clearance Physical Requirements

May require working in an office, industrial, shipboard, or laboratory environment. Capable of climbing ladders and tolerating confined spaces and extreme temperature variances.
