About the Sizewell C Project
EDF Energy is leading the charge toward a low-carbon energy future in the UK, with Sizewell C (SZC) at the forefront. Set to begin construction at the end of 2023, SZC is a major new nuclear station that will play a key role in reducing carbon emissions and shaping the nation's energy policy.
The SZC Project Team is a diverse, collaborative group focused on engaging stakeholders, securing development consent, and preparing for construction. Central to this effort is the Quality function within the Project Delivery Organisation (PDO), ensuring compliance with the Integrated Management System (IMS) and regulatory Licence Conditions. This project will have a lasting impact on the UK's energy landscape and climate goals.
Job Purpose / Overview
The role is to support preconstruction activities regarding plant and required equipment for delivery of the works in the Marine and Tunnels (M+T) scope, part of the overarching Civil Works Programme of SZC. The surface engineer will support the development of the plant strategy for delivering the Marine and Tunnels scope safely and to cost, schedule and quality within the agreed constraints.
The role includes working and coordinating with other team members, identifying plant requirements for the different packages of Marine and Tunnel, and coordinate with the Plant Manager and CWA Transversal Plant team any requirement and opportunities for the delivery of the project. This role will also support the layout and proposals for the Marine and Tunnel packages to improve efficiency of plant to be used for the works, as well as tendering processes for plant and equipment for the portion.
Principal Accountabilities, Activities and Decisions
Support the submission of the Marine and Tunnel Plant strategy to deliver works within the contract or package of work and the interfaces to the other elements of the programme. Identification of plant requirement across the Marine and Tunnel section. In collaboration with the Plant Manager and CWA Transversal Plant Department, develop preventive maintenance plans for assets associated with M&T portion. Establish adequate system of monitoring of control for consumables and spare parts for the M&T plant. Working in collaboration with the M&T team, the surface & plant engineer shall anticipate and communicate any possible deviation from the plant strategies, maintenance plans and operations defined for the scope of works. Assist in the selection/procurement of the different plant packages and suppliers. Collaborate on the selection of equipment and components for Avonmouth hub Apply the principles of Continuous Improvement. And lessons learned from previous projects to optimise flows and delivery strategies. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with all project team members.
Knowledge & Skills
A successful track record of involvement in logistics and plant requirements within a construction site, and particularly within tunnelling activities, tunnel surface plant, tunnel segment lining segmental plant in UK large-scale projects. Preferably experience development of Maintenance Preventive plan in large-scale projects linked to Tunnelling industries. Desirable experience in plant requirement for Slurry/Water treatment plants.
Qualifications & Experience
Experience of successfully engaging groups of stakeholders. Able to demonstrate strong management skills including project management, financial management, change management and facilitation. Control of costs; risk; schedule and changes. Good presentation, influencing and facilitation skills. Excellent communication and organisational skills, able to develop relationships and maintain effective networks.
