DESCRIPTION:
As a Senior PLC Engineer at Frontier-Kemper, reporting to the General Manager, you will have the opportunity to:
Implement and improve PLC design through programming upgrades from its original standard configuration to the optimized more sophisticated and refined versions.
Adapt the systems characteristics to suit new and progressive challenges presented by the nature of underground mechanized excavation techniques.
Integration of custom PLC solutions in matter of automation and data collection required to enhance heavy civil engineering project work cycle and its economy.
Manage specific underground conditions that require attention or act as indicators of safe and efficient mining practice in HMI (Human/Machines Interface) developments.
Responsible for routing maintenance, repair and calibration of electric/electronic components, sensors, CPUs, INPUT/OUTPUT modules analog and digital, sensors and actuators all part of the robotic and telemetry equipment systems installed on board of Tunnel Boring Machine ("TBM").
Responsible for generating requests for necessary tools, equipment, spare parts and materials pertaining to this field.
Lead troubleshooting and repair electrical, controls and communications issues on complex underground mining machines which include PLCs, HMIs, VFDs and industrial networks.
Support field electricians on site in troubleshooting mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems and components to return mining equipment to production [AS1]
REQUIREMENTS:
Six (6) years of relevant engineering experience in: PLC controls implementation, troubleshooting and repair specifically for underground mechanical excavation equipment; and
Computer modeling experience, and Medium and Low Voltage power distribution designs.
Of those six (6) years, five (5) years must involve Tunnel Boring Machine (“TBM”) operation and maintenance, including TBM Control system design, troubleshooting, and repair.
Proficiency in AC/DC drive systems design and application as it relates to TBM operation.
Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, electrical schematics, PLC programs, fluid diagrams and schematics and construction drawings.
Domestic/international travel is required, as assigned, to various unanticipated sites for an estimated 2 weeks per month to train company employees in the areas of troubleshooting and repair of electrical systems including PLC programs as they relate to mechanical machinery, interpretation and application of machine data.
