This position will be responsible for leading research, development and demonstration projects on power systems operation, planning, and resilience. It is home to eight world-class ski resorts, five national parks, and more than 40 state parks with endless activities, including hiking, rock climbing, mountain biking, whitewater rafting, and camping. **Responsibilities** + **Power Systems Analysis and Modeling:** Develop and apply advanced power systems models and simulations to assess the performance, flexibility, reliability and resilience of power systems, considering scenarios such as integration with energy storage and distributed energy resources, various level of adoption and impacts of extreme weather events. + **Data Analysis:** Analyze power systems data, including historical sensor data and grid topology data, to inform modeling and decision-making processes. + **Innovation:** Contribute to the development of innovative power grid software technologies. + **Translate Research into Practice:** Lead the translation of research results from research projects into practical application for industry and other stakeholders. + **Publications and Reporting:** Prepare technical reports, papers, and presentations to communicate the findings and insights. Publish in relevant venues and present at conferences. + **Grant Proposals:** Assist in the preparation and submission of grant proposals. + **Mentoring:** Provide guidance and mentorship to junior researchers, graduate students, and interns working on relevant projects at the University of Utah. + **Collaboration:** Collaborate with industry partners, government agencies, and other stakeholders to advance research and innovation on grid resilience. **Work Environment and Level of Frequency that may be required** Nearly Continuously: Office environment. Seldom: Bending, reaching overhead. **Minimum Qualifications** Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or research related field plus three years of related engineering experience or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) required. Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills also required. This position is not responsible for providing patient care. Care is appropriate to the population served Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description. **Preferences** **Preferred Qualifications:** + Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. + Prior experience in power systems modeling and analysis and proficiency in power systems modeling and simulation software such as CYME , OpenDSS, among others. + Strong data analysis skills, including the use of statistical software (e.g., R, Python). + Excellent written and verbal communication skills. + Track record of publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at conferences. + Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, interdisciplinary research environment. + Experience with working on large projects and teams. + Analytics experience with forecasting, GIS , and data services + Familiarity with power grid operation, planning and relevant software. + Grant writing and proposal development experience. **Type** Benefited Staff **Special Instructions Summary** **Required Documents** Along with the online application, please attach: 1.
