Senior Process Automation Engineer

About you and this role

As a member of the Polyurethanes (PU) Business Focused Team, a part of Dow’s Process Automation Technology Group within Technical Expertise & Support (TES), you will be joining a global team of professionals providing Process Automation solutions to the PU Business.  Your team consists of members from the U.S. Gulf Coast, Netherlands, Spain, and India. This role is based in Plaquemine, Louisiana supporting Alkoxylation within the PU portfolio of technologies. Primary responsibility is for active Process Automation projects staffed by TES in Louisiana; however, you will work with other PA professionals from outside of the region and on occasion may have opportunities to provide support internationally.  You will be working in close collaboration with Operations, other Engineering Functions, Global Technology Centers, and Subject Matter Experts (SME).  Several opportunities exist to develop and grow your knowledge and expertise, as well as opportunities to coach and mentor others.  We have several important projects going on in the region including migration of heritage control systems to modern ABB 800xA control systems comprising Basic Process Control, Safety Instrumented Systems, Batch Management, and Integration into Enterprise systems.

ResponsibilitiesDesign and/or modify the ABB 800xA basic process control system (BPCS).Design the control strategy and control systems, as well as implementation.Partner with other engineers and technicians to determine the process control requirements.Develop the functional requirement specification (FRS) for the system & create detailed design specifications (DDS).Develop control software, operator graphics and simulation software.Complete the factory acceptance tests (FAT) and commissioning activities.Become a SME in at least one of our Alkoxylation SME Network teams.Provide training of operations and support commissioning and start-up of the new assets.Drive strategic solutions and improvements in partnership with stakeholders.Engage with stakeholders and cross-discipline and cross-functional global project teams.

QualificationsBachelor’s degree in engineering or related field of study required.  Relevant military experience at or above a U.S. E6 ranking or Canadian Petty Officer 2nd Class or Sergeant (PO2/Sgt) Military ranking also accepted.Minimum 3 years of related experience with at least 1 year of experience with the ABB 800xA control platform.  Some Dow MOD5 experience is a plus.Proficient in English.Results driven with ability to work alone and in teams.Ability to periodically work in an in-plant industrial environment.Has the potential to further develop and lead teams.
