About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced Senior Process Engineer -Automation specializing in laboratory hardware automation (liquid handling, workcell, integrated track systems). As a Senior Process Engineer - Automation, you will play a critical role in developing and transferring technology and knowledge related to laboratory hardware automation, ensuring the seamless implementation and utilization of advanced automation systems within our clinical operations and reagent manufacturing organizations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, automation engineers, software engineers, and scientists, to create integrated automation solutions that streamline lab processes. Employ rapid iteration to prototype mechanisms and components. Design and develop advanced lab automated systems incorporating novel design components, servo systems, sensors, pneumatic actuators, conveyors and commercial components, ensuring they meet performance, reliability, and safety requirements. Strong understanding of laboratory processes and workflows, with the ability to translate them into automation requirements.Conduct feasibility studies and contribute to the conceptualization of new lab automation systems. Lead continuous improvement activities to optimize processes and automation efficiency. Develop and execute test plans to validate the functionality and performance of lab automation systems, troubleshoot issues, and implement improvements. Keep up to date with the latest advancements in lab automation technologies and incorporate relevant innovations into the design process. Collaborate with vendors and suppliers to source components and materials required for the successful assembly and production of lab automation systems. Provide technical support during the production and assembly of lab automation products and ensure adherence to quality standards. Contribute to the documentation and preparation of user manuals, technical specifications, and other relevant materials for lab automation systems. QualificationsBachelor's or Master's in Mechanical engineering, Automation Engineering, Process Engineering, Biomedical Engineering or a related fieldProven experience (5+ years) in the design and development of lab automation systems or similar complex machinery. Competency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) for 3D modeling and engineering drawings. Familiarity with automation technologies, including robotics, motion control, and mechatronics.Experience with operating and programming liquid handling robotics platforms (Hamilton, TECAN, Beckman, Agilent)Verification & Validation experience, URS, IQ, OQ, PQ, FAT, SAT, pFMEA, and technical files for submissionBasic programming knowledge of Python, C# or relevant similar languagesExcellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work creatively in a multidisciplinary team environment. Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with team members and stakeholders. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with meticulous attention to detail.Knowledge of relevant industry standards and safety regulations for lab automation systems. Additional InformationHybrid Work Model: At Guardant Health, we have defined days for in-person/onsite collaboration and work-from-home days for individual-focused time. All U.S. employees who live within 50 miles of a Guardant facility will be required to be onsite on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. The US base salary range for this full-time position is $94,720.00 to $127,870.00. The range does not include benefits, and if applicable, bonus, commission, or equity. The range displayed reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries across all US locations for the posted role with the exception of any locations specifically referenced below (if any).
For positions based in Palo Alto, CA or Redwood City, CA, the base salary range for this full-time position is $118,400.00 to $159,840.00. The range does not include benefits, and if applicable, bonus, commission, or equity.
Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including, but not limited to, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. If you are selected to move forward, the recruiting team will provide details specific to the factors above.
Employee may be required to lift routine office supplies and use office equipment. Majority of the work is performed in a desk/office environment; however, there may be exposure to high noise levels, fumes, and biohazard material in the laboratory environment. Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
