Senior Process Specialist – Mineral Processing
An exciting position has become available for a Senior Process Specialist to join our Metals Business Unit in the Minerals Processing practice. Become part of a global team of innovative and trusted professionals who provide process engineering input to the different sectors within a Consulting Engineering Environment.
The Senior Process Specialist will be part of the Mineral Processing team providing engineering services and/or field support. The Senior Process Specialist may be required to act as Lead Process Engineer on specific assignments, responsible for coordinating the process engineering team, overseeing and guiding the development of process engineering deliverables while ensuring they meet the project’s scope, delivered on schedule and budget, and meet Hatch’s quality standards.
The Senior Process Specialist will be required to actively participate in Business Development initiatives and assist or lead the development of relevant Proposals. Client liaison and maintaining the focus of the project on achieving unprecedented and sustained business results for the client is a large part of the work.
Experience in uranium processing, potash processing, and/or crystallization would be an asset.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Managing interactions with Mining, Hydrometallurgy, Engineering, Processing, and Operations on process performance and improvement engagements.
Identifying potential improvement test work through the personal inspection of plant condition and performance.
Coordinating or contributing to identifying, planning and executing metallurgical test work (R&D) to optimize performance and manage external service providers conducting test work.
development and completion of the process engineering component of scoping, pre-feasibility and feasibility studies for projects; managing scope, schedule and budget for the process engineering team or overall project engineering team dependent on assignment.
Operating with full competence and independence in the execution of all design calculations, design criteria, in the compilation and execution of equipment lists and calculations.
Developing new criteria/calculations where required, while maintaining high levels of accuracy.
Providing frequent training, guidance and supervision to junior colleagues.
Overseeing and guiding the development of process engineering deliverables and tasks including: test work definition, design basis, design criteria, mass and energy balance, capacity studies, trade-off studies, engineering and equipment calculations, piping and instrumentations diagrams, process control logic, and operating and capital cost estimates.
Collaborating with the client’s representatives to ensure full, appropriate communication and coordination in the achievement of the process objectives.
Managing the understanding, development and implementation of existing and new process technologies.
Facilitating and ensuring that all required process expertise is included in the design to ensure design quality objectives are achieved and that the process solution delivers as per client requirements.
Defining unit operations and select the equipment for projects.
Ensuring process specifications portray the appropriate information and design intent.
Taking responsibility for maintaining and adherence to the process engineering standards.
Reviewing of CAPEX and OPEX cost estimates.
Supporting the commissioning of equipment and systems.
Providing technical guidance on unusual or complex problems and supervisory approval on proposed plans for projects.
Independently contacting clients, contractor representatives, and project field personnel to gather or provide information.
Managing and monitoring the quality of engineering deliverables.
Contributing to hazard studies.
Preparing well written project reports.
Oversee and guide process engineering tasks on Minerals Processing projects, in a variety of commodities. When requested as a process lead.
Participate in the preparation of proposals and other business development initiatives.
Qualifications and Experience
Relevant degree and suitable experience in metallurgy, mineral processing, or related field of work.
10+ years experience working on site for a producing mine and/or in a consulting environment.
Strong client focus with a broad contact base.
Extensive design, commissioning and/or operational experience of minerals processing equipment.
Experience in Metallurgy software – METSIM, SysCAD, and other applicable programs.
Experience in engineering planning for studies and projects the process engineering discipline and engineering in general.
Having a clear understanding of project stage gate requirements as they relate to scope, cost and schedule.
Ability to lead engineering tasks on a project, within the allocated budget and schedule, including mentoring and guidance of junior colleagues and professional interaction with other project disciplines.
Ability to use mathematical models to describe and integrate lab test work, plant data.
Ability to manage individuals to attain quality cost and schedule objectives.
