**GENERAL DUTIES**
Under general supervision, in office titles such as Production Assistant, Producer, Writer, Editor, Host, Reporter or Interviewer, employees in this class of positions are responsible for the creative design, development and/or execution of editorial material for broadcast. This includes writing, reporting and gathering information; and producing, hosting and/or editing of the material that is to be broadcasted. May also be responsible for developing, managing and coordinating the content and presentation of broadcasts.
There are three assignment levels in this class of positions. This specification describes typical duties of these assignments; related duties are performed as needed.

**CONTRACT TITLE**

**CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION**
CUNY TV, the City University of New York’s television station, has been educating and informing viewers for more than three decades, remaining committed to extending CUNY’s academic mission to offer lifelong learning opportunities to all New Yorkers. Established in 1985, CUNY TV reaches 7.3 million broadcast households in the New York metro area from its studios at the CUNY Graduate Center. CUNY TV is broadcast over the air on channel 25.3 and in the five boroughs via cable channels, Spectrum and Optimum on channel 75, RCN on channel 77 and Verizon FiOS on channel 30.
CUNY TV is seeking a candidate who will serve as both a Senior Producer for a monthly CUNY TV show and Reporter. Reporting to CUNY TV’s Co-Director of Production, the areas of focus for the Senior Producer and Reporter will be studio-based programming (consisting of up to one host and three guests), magazine programs and other special broadcasts, and live shows and other major productions. The incumbent will work closely with senior-level CUNY management, New York City/State officials, and liaise with CUNY campuses. Their work products will exhibit a thorough understanding of the “look” and “style” that a particular production should have, and the expectations and needs of the target audience. They will consistently display a thorough understanding of the technical aspects of the production, creative proficiency, and a passion for telling stories with the ability to explain and describe the details of those stories to all involved in the creation and delivery of the broadcast production.
Key duties include, but will not be limited to, the following:
+ Lead production for a monthly half-hour show.
+ Collaborate with a host to determine show content.
+ Research and reach out to prospective participants for episodes.
+ Schedule and coordinate field and studio shoots; attend all shoots and ensure they run smoothly.
+ Work with the host to create scripts for the show.
+ Prepare and coordinate edits for final production.
+ Submit all necessary post-production paperwork.
+ Produce and manage all social media content.
+ Write and prepare copy for the CUNYTV newsletter.
+ Work with the Senior Producer to determine episode direction.
+ Schedule, attend, and manage shoots.
+ Write and edit a monthly feature piece of approximately 7 minutes in length.
+ Prepare social media content.
+ Serve as a rotating host.
+ Participate in monthly show producers meetings to share themes of upcoming shows and participate as a reporter in other show meetings as needed.
**NOTES:**
1. Until further notice, this position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule.
2. **An appointment to this Competitive title/position in the Classified Civil Service Title Series will be made with a Provisional status. Employees in provisional status must pass a competitive civil service examination and be appointed from a civil service list to remain in the title/position.**
**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS**
Assignment Level 1: Requires a high school diploma or GED, and 2 years of full-time, satisfactory directly related experience in a television broadcast environment, or
Associate Degree or 60 college credits, and 1 year of experience.
Assignment Level 2: Requires a high school diploma or GED, and 5 years of experience, or
Associate Degree or 60 college credits, and 4 years of experience, or
Baccalaureate Degree and 3 years of experience.
Assignment Level 3: Requires a high school diploma or GED, and 10 years of experience, or
Associate Degree or 60 college credits, and 9 years of experience, or
Baccalaureate Degree and 8 years of experience, or
Master’s Degree and 7 years of experience.
Important Notes: All qualifying experience must be from a television broadcast environment, full-time, or full-time equivalent, and in a position where the duties performed are directly related to those of Television Media Production Specialist.
College education must be in a directly related field of study, from a regionally accredited or New York State registered four-year college or university.
Some positions in any of the Assignment Levels may require a current, valid Motor Vehicle Driver License valid in the State of New York.

**OTHER QUALIFICATIONS**
Preferred:
+ Bachelor’s degree or higher in journalism, communications, or a related field.
+ 5-10 years of proven work experience as a broadcast journalist.
+ Strong proficiency in video editing and camera operation.
+ Understanding of timing, continuity, and storytelling principles.
+ Excellent writing and storytelling skills.
+ Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
+ Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal.
+ Experience with social media promotion related to assigned stories.
+ Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
**COMPENSATION**
**New hire rate:** $73,671 *****
**Incumbent rate:** $83,248
***This amount reflects a 13% salary suppression in effect for the first 24 months of employment only.**
