As a Senior Product Counsel, you will act as a key advisor and first point of legal contact to support our product, engineering, and other teams in building the future of the Roblox platform. Our mission as Product Counsel is to become product experts and to provide thoughtful and effective legal advice to help our business teams succeed. To accomplish this, we work closely with other members of the legal team and collaborate with a wide range of cross-functional teams to identify risks while maintaining a keen sense of business judgment. 

This role is dedicated to providing strategic legal advice to internal product and engineering teams, primarily in connection with Economy, the team that productize Robux and the Developer Exchange process at Roblox. The role requires application of complex, evolving legal frameworks to new and innovative products and services. You will:

Act as a trusted advisor to Roblox product, engineering, and operations teams as well as company leadership throughout the product and process development lifecycle to ensure balanced product launches. Ensure compliance with US and international laws and regulations including those concerning money service business compliance requirements, anti-money laundering rules, know-your-customer requirements, consumer protection, and UDAAP. Advise on the risks associated with offering products such as virtual currencies, gift cards, and loot boxes in all jurisdictions in which Roblox or such products are available.  Coordinate advice with cross-functional partners, including product, marketing, trust & safety, and other internal and external legal counsel. Stay on top of the latest developments in a constantly evolving legal landscape and develop deep expertise in Roblox’s products. Build positive and influential relationships company-wide through trusted advising, knowledge-sharing and training. Report to the Director of Product Legal 

You have: 

10+ years of relevant legal experience, preferably a combination of law firm and in-house experience at a consumer-facing technology company, preferably in a gaming or social platform with a monetization, fintech, or financial institutions. A license to practice law in a US jurisdiction. Strong business-oriented judgment and the ability to analyze problems, propose solutions, and provide advice that is creative, practical, and legally acceptable, taking into account the needs and objectives of the business. The ability to manage a diverse and complex workload while maintaining priorities and proactively investigating and identifying issues. The desire to work on a small but growing team, and a track record of collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders to overcome complex challenges. Previous experience advising companies engaged in payments, UGC platforms, digital commerce, and/or offering virtual currencies Outstanding communication abilities, with proven experience in cross-functional teamwork and consensus building. A track record of educating internal stakeholders, translating complex concepts, and advising on risk mitigation strategies.

For roles that are based at our headquarters in San Mateo, CA: The starting base pay for this position is as shown below. The actual base pay is dependent upon a variety of job-related factors such as professional background, training, work experience, location, business needs and market demand. Therefore, in some circumstances, the actual salary could fall outside of this expected range. This pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. All full-time employees are also eligible for equity compensation and for benefits.

Annual Salary Range$291,720—$334,420 USD

Roles that are based in our San Mateo, CA Headquarters are in-office Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with optional in-office on Monday and Friday (unless otherwise noted).
