As a?Senior Design System Designer, you will lead the evolution and adoption of Paylocity’s design system, Citrus, ensuring consistency, scalability, and efficiency across our product suite. You are a systems thinker, a storyteller, a driver of change, and a strong collaborator who thrives in a highly cross-functional environment. Your work will directly impact the quality and usability of Paylocity’s products by providing best-in-class design solutions for designers and developers alike. This role will report to the?Design System Manager.
Responsibilities:
+ Collaborate with Product and Engineering?– Work closely with designers, engineers, and product managers to ensure the design system remains a scalable, accessible, and cohesive experience.
+ Initiate and Drive Projects?– Display complete independence in leading the initiation of small- to medium-sized projects, balancing user insights, business goals, technical feasibility, and design principles.
+ Advocate for Design Best Practices?– Provide expert guidance on information architecture, interaction models, and visual consistency across products.
+ Facilitate Workshops and Collaboration?– Organize and lead ideation sessions, workshops, and cross-team discussions to drive alignment and adoption of the design system.
+ Ensure Development Quality?– Partner with engineering teams to ensure high-quality implementation, tracking development bugs and missed requirements for continuous improvement.
+ Refine and Document Standards?– Establish and maintain comprehensive documentation to ensure designers and developers can effectively use the design system.
+ Champion Accessibility and Inclusion?– Advocate for and implement accessibility best practices (WCAG) in design system components.
+ Mentor and Coach?– Provide guidance and mentorship to designers, helping them effectively integrate the design system into their work.
+ Engage in Thought Leadership?– Stay up to date with industry trends, contribute to UX communities, and share insights to help advance the field of design systems.
+ Promote Transparency and Collaboration?– Proactively share design system updates and knowledge across teams to drive awareness and engagement.
Required Experience:
+ Bachelor’s degree in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Interaction Design, Human Factors, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
+ 5-7 years of UX/UI design experience, with at least 2 years dedicated to design systems.
+ Strong visual, communication, and presentation skills.
+ Deep understanding of Figma, component-based design, and design tokens.
+ Experience collaborating with product and engineering teams to build and maintain a design system.
Preferred Skills
+ Experience designing for SaaS products in an agile environment.
+ Familiarity with front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, React, Storybook, etc.).
+ Knowledge of AI/ML-driven design patterns and ability to integrate them into a design system.
+ Experience mentoring and coaching designers on design system adoption.
+ Background in UX research and data-driven decision-making.
+ Strong knowledge of accessibility principles and WCAG guidelines.
