This individual will design and develop innovative, cost effective battery products for Transportation applications. These products may include Flooded, EFB and AGM products. Primary development focus includes electrochemical, component and material design. The individual will support new product development and market launches that support top line revenue growth as well as projects focused on driving non-value added cost out of the product. This position must be able to interpret internal and external customer specifications and requirements and translate this to a clear and concise product development program. This position requires the ability to coordinate cross functional teams and track and monitor project status. This position must work with Sales, Marketing, Quality, Operations and other groups to ensure customer expectations are met. The position will also work with other Engineering staff to assure innovative ideas are leveraged into value to the business. The position will have the opportunity to interface with both customers and vendors.

 

The position is located in Alpharetta, GA.

Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty under the guidance of the appropriate supervisor and/or by themselves. Essential duties include the following; other duties may be assigned.

Design new products to meet requirements of customers and/or marketing and sales. Effectively translate the “voice of the customer” to new products. Product breadth includes Transportation products for Automotive, On and Off- Road Truck, Marine and SpecialtyInitiate and assist in new VAVE projects focused on improving the cost and quality of current product lines. This may include new or enhanced design, materials or process related projects.Coordinate changes with the entire product line in mind. Effectively capture cost reduction savings and determine impact to product lines and the business.Facilitate the introduction of new or modified materials to the product line and provide technical support data to Marketing to create a compelling sales story.Prepare Bills of Material necessary for battery construction. Issue product specifications to match product construction or in support of other departments.Initiate sample builds, coordinate builds effectively with the plants, capture build successes and failures.Interface with customers as required to solve customer field/engineering problems and present new ideasPrepare and present technical information to customers in a professional, organized and understandable mannerCoordinate translation of customer product descriptions as provided by Sales /Marketing (or the customer) into product designs and specificationsInterface with internal commercial (Sales, Marketing) and operations teams (Plants, Purchasing, Finance) as needed on business plan development, program management and product launch coordinationAssist QA with customer field return analysis/warranty programs and internal product compliance performance testingEnsure all product development, customer support and launch activity is conducted in accordance with applicable Quality System requirements and Stryten policies and proceduresManage projects which require strong cross functional engagement. Facilitate team building.Facilitate product related standardization to global standards as applicable. Qualifications

Education, Experience, Certifications:

Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Chemical Engineering or other Technical degree required.4+ years’ experience in product design / development environment.Lead-acid battery experience preferred.

Language Skills:

Demonstrate an ability to read and interpret technical documents, specifications and CAD drawings.Ability to write routine reports and correspondence and to speak effectively before groups

Project Management:

Planning & Organizing – Ability to generate and execute project plans, develop work breakdown structures, managing schedule, objectives, resources and budget in a cross functional environment.Effectively prioritize tasks to meet project schedules – work on multiple tasks simultaneously, both independently and in a team-oriented environment.Experience with standard Project Management processes is a plus.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to calculate figures such as statistical, algebraic and trigonometric values, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volumeDemonstrated application of basic concepts of statistics and data analysis

Reasoning Skills:

Ability to solve practical problems and handle a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists

PC Software Knowledge:

Strong computer skills including knowledge of Windows based programs, spreadsheets and word processing programsFamiliarity with statistical analysis, data analysis, and engineering-based computer programsExperience with Visual Basic and MS Excel array formulasExperience with Python (including common libraries such as pandas, numpy, sklearn, etc.)Familiarity of SQL/SQL style queriesFamiliarity with data visualization (e.g. Tableau)

Design Skills:

Basic knowledge of CAD systems and ability to read drawingsWith assistance, the ability to translate basic chemical and electrochemical concepts to functioning battery designs.FEA experience s a plus

Physical Demands:

Hearing, speaking, seeing, writing, standing, lifting (50 lbs), sitting, bending, walking, and carrying

Work Environment:

Normal office environment and battery plant visits where there is some exposure to lead, acid, fumes, dirt, and noise

Travel, additional requirements:

Travel is required in order to execute the objectives of the position and business and will vary depending on the business priorities and business flow and can be as much as 25%. EEO Statement
