The Knopf Doubleday Production Editorial department is seeking a senior production editor who will handle editorial production on a wide range of books, including fiction (literary and commercial), poetry, nonfiction with complicated elements, with an emphasis on cookbooks, and graphic novels from manuscript through final PDF approval. Technical proficiency in MS Word and Adobe Acrobat is required.
Specific responsibilities include:
Responsible for 25–30 original titles per year, plus paperback editions of previously published hardcovers Hires and supervises freelance copy editors, proofreaders, and indexers, and reviews their work Adheres to production schedule for each project and communicates with managing editorial, editorial, design, and production departments to troubleshoot and resolve problems that arise Copyedits and proofreads jacket and galley materials Collates and reviews author and proofreader corrections Electronically codes manuscripts for design elements and typesetting Works on all stages of proof electronically in Adobe Acrobat Able to work on books with accelerated schedules

Five or more years’ experience as a production editor in an adult trade book publishing environment Cookbook experience particularly desired Detail-oriented, organized, flexible, and able to work independently Excellent copy editing and proofreading skills Excellent grasp of grammar and punctuation, including familiarity with the Chicago Manual of Style Familiarity with electronic copyediting using Track Changes in Microsoft Word and with Adobe Acrobat PDF markup tools Ability to communicate effectively and work well with other departments Strong organizational skills and ability to coordinate multiple projects at once Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
The PRH office is located in New York, NY. The position is open to remote candidates.
The salary for this position is $73,500. All positions are currently eligible for annual profit award or bonus, subject to Company results.
