Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities

In this position a self-motivated individual will use independent judgment to analyze financial and risk data to assess risk quality and exposures. They will determine appropriate recommendations subject to our management and underwriting guidelines and will proactively build broker relationships by communicating our underwriting appetite and stimulating production. This individual will be responsible for ensuring the delivery, follow-up, and servicing requirements of all quotes on new and renewal accounts. This includes visiting brokers to review prospects and triage applications in the broker’s office.

Job Requirements

Bachelor’s degree and generally 3 to 6 years of California workers compensation field/production underwriting experience.Proficient with underwriting concepts and their practical application. Familiarity with the Southern California broker plant a plus. Excellent communication, interpersonal, presentation and organizational skills. Uses communication skills to build trusting relationships and enhance service reputation. Continuing education such as CIC or CPCU designation is a plus. A valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record are required.Travel is required in this position.Must reside in Southern California as this position services our Southern California territory.

Scope of Job: Performs work under general supervision and technical direction.  Demonstrates technical knowledge with moderately complex underwriting concepts.  Relies on experience to accomplish goals.  Works with moderate latitude and authority.  Position requires frequent day and overnight travel, more than 10% but less than 50% of time, to visit agents and brokers.  Typically, does not prospect or solicit new agents. Uses communication skills to build and leverage excellent customer relationships and to market products and services.
