Senior Program Manager - Controls and Automation Engineer

BGIS is currently seeking a Senior Program Manager – Controls and Automation Engineer to join the team in South Jordan, UT.

Purpose Statement: Optimize performance and sustainability of data center operations through design, development, and maintenance of tailored control systems for power distribution, cooling, and mechanical infrastructure.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Controls System Design & Optimization

Design, develop, and maintain control systems for data center power distribution, cooling, and mechanical systems. Monitor system performance, analyze data, and adjust controls to improve efficiency and effectiveness. Support integration and maintenance of Building Management Systems (BMS) and Electrical Power Management Systems (EPMS).

Project Leadership & Collaboration

Collaborate with Controls and Monitoring team and stakeholders to deliver integrated solutions aligned with client operational goals. Lead large-scale control system projects from conception through implementation and commissioning. Provide ongoing support, troubleshooting, and optimization of existing systems to ensure reliability and performance.

Documentation & Standards

Prepare technical documentation and standard operating procedures for system operations and maintenance. Contribute to energy efficiency projects and sustainable practices in data center operations. Contribute to completion of other key initiatives as assigned.

Required Education, Knowledge, and Abilities

Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical field required. Minimum 5 years of experience in controls engineering with focus on data center or similar critical environments. Expertise in programming, configuring, and managing PLCs, SCADA, and HMIs within BMS and EPMS systems. Proficient understanding of data center infrastructure systems (electrical and mechanical). Familiarity with EtherNET/IP, Modbus, and BACnet protocols. Strong data analysis, problem-solving, and system optimization skills. Ability to interpret complex technical drawings and schematics. Demonstrated experience managing full-lifecycle control system projects. Preferred: Experience with Rockwell FactoryTalk and Studio 5000 or similar platforms. Preferred: Experience with energy efficiency and sustainability projects in data centers. Excellent communication skills to convey complex technical details to non-technical stakeholders. Ability to travel 5–10% of the time; valid driver’s license required. Participation in on-call rotation (team schedule). Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite - Word, Excel, Outlook.
