Leads, plans and tracks all phases of the product life cycle, from inception to introduction into the marketplace. Coordinates with various functions to ensure successful product development and implementation. **This role in summary** Whirlpool is looking for a qualified candidate for the position of **Subsystem Engineer – Analyst (Structures, Sheet Metal, Plastic & Packaging)** for the **Laundry Systems team** at **Pondicherry** . This role will lead the **design, development, and validation of structural components** such as cabinet, base frame, top cover, brackets, and packaging systems for **Semi-Automatic, Fully Automatic (Top & Front Load)** washers and dryers. **Your responsibilities will include** + Lead **mechanical design, validation, and release** of structural components — including sheet metal cabinet, base frame, top panel, cross braces, and plastic covers. + Drive **design-to-cost and design-for-manufacturing** principles to achieve part commonality and simplification across models. + Conduct **structural strength, modal, and durability assessments** through physical and simulation-based validation. + Develop and validate **packaging design** to ensure drop and vibration performance compliance during transportation and handling. + Collaborate with suppliers and manufacturing plants to review **tool design, process capability, and assembly feasibility** . + Execute **DFMEA and DVPR** for structure, plastics, and packaging components. + Review and approve **3D/2D design data** , BOMs, and engineering change documentation through the Whirlpool Product Development (WPD) process. + Work with **CAE teams** to perform virtual validation (FEA / Modal / Drop test simulation). + Benchmark competitor products for **design, cost, and assembly simplification opportunities** . + Support **localization and cost-saving initiatives** through material substitution, gauge optimization, and component consolidation. + Lead **packaging optimization** (material reduction, recyclability, and protection enhancement) aligned with sustainability goals. Partner with **manufacturing engineering** to ensure seamless transition from prototype to mass production. **Minimum requirements** **EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS** M.E / M.Tech (Mechanical / Industrial / Manufacturing Engineering) B.E / B.Tech (Mechanical / Production) **AGE** NA **EXP** 6 – 10 Years 8 – 12 Years **Preferred skills and experiences** 1. trong knowledge of sheet metal design, fabrication, and assembly methods (welding, hemming, clinching, riveting). 2. Understanding of plastic part design – injection molding, parting line, ribs, draft, and warpage control. 3. Proficiency in 3D CAD (Creo preferred) and PLM tools (Windchill) for design release and revision control. 4. Experience in CAE-based structural analysis (Static, Dynamic, Modal, Drop Test simulations). 5. Familiarity with structural validation tests (rigidity, load deflection, vibration, drop, and handling). 6. Understanding of packaging design using paperboard, foam, and recyclable materials for product protection. 7. Exposure to DFMEA, DVP&R, and design review methodologies. 8. Ability to evaluate supplier manufacturing processes for feasibility and capability improvement. 9. Knowledge of material selection and cost optimization techniques for both metal and plastic components. 10. Awareness of surface treatment and corrosion protection methods for structural parts. 11. Familiarity with sustainability, recyclability, and packaging optimization trends. **Additional information** 1. Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams (Manufacturing, Quality, Sourcing, Packaging, CAE). 3. Analytical and structured problem-solving approach (8D / DMAIC). 4. Strong communication and presentation skills for design reviews and technical discussions. 5. Proactive, detail-oriented, and self-motivated mindset. 6.
