Project Engineer (PE) supports project planning, monitoring, and executing within the engineering/design area of a project. The PE determine the necessary project tasks and their deadlines and coordinate with functional leaders to assign appropriate resources. The PE monitors and reports the engineering performance to the overall project schedule using MS project as well as Cirrus-specific project engineering tools. For smaller projects with ~5-15 FTE assigned, the PE provides project leadership to those resources and reports to the Program Manager (PM) as part of the cross-functional Integrated Project Team (IPT). For larger projects with ~15-20+ FTE assigned, a PE is assigned to a specific project area of the project (structures, Systems/Powerplant, Avionics/Electrical) and reports to a Lead Project Engineer (LPE). The LPE represents the PE’s and their areas of engineering as part of the cross-functional IPT, reporting the PM.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Coordinates with engineering/design resources assigned to specific project area. For smaller projects, PE reports (dotted line) to the PM as part of the IPT. For larger projects, the PE reports (dotted line) to the LPE for their project area and the LPE reports (dotted line) to the PM as part of the IPT. Monitors and reports the engineering performance to the overall project schedule using MS Project and Cirrus-specific project engineering tools. Uses Cirrus New Product Introduction System (NPIS) and phased-gating methodology to coordinate/provide engineering/design aspects with input from PM. Provides project-specific direction for using Cirrus Design Engineering Procedures (CDEP) with input from Functional/Discipline leaders. Facilitates weekly group and/or project-level meetings with project resources and functional/discipline leaders. Coordinates with Functional/discipline Leaders to on-/off-board project resources, including project tasks/deadlines, estimating scope of work and necessary resources, and aligning to project budget. Coordinates with Functional/discipline leaders for day-to-day task/weekly task assignments based on project priority and resource skills/experience/availability. Coordinate with Chief Engineer to identify, track, and mitigate technical risks Coordinate with Chief Engineer on technical direction of the project/area consistent with the MR&O, DR&O, and applicable requirements with input from Functional/discipline leaders as required. Coordinates with LPE and PM to define and align interdependencies within project area to be consistent with the overall project schedule. Coordinates with other PE’s to review and align group priorities consistent with the overall project schedule. Coordinates with other areas of the IPT to achieve engineering/design deliverables using Cirrus tools and input from the PM, primarily including: Manufacturing Design/Development (MD&D) – tooling, process definition, design for manufacturability, and build planning Experimental Fabrication – fabrication thru all work centers Quality Assurance – inspection requirements and process definition Procurement – Supplier NDA/LTA, quoting, purchase orders Coordinate with LPE and PM to update the project schedule and applicable project engineering tools and metrics. Identify specific risks, critical paths, and assess impacts of scope/resource/schedule changes. Lead weekly engineering project meetings Ensures group members feel valued, manages diverse personalities, and recognizes superior work and/or extra effort. Provides feedback to functional/discipline leader on resource performance with input from LPE and chief Engineer.Education and/or Experience:
Senior Project Engineer 5+ years Engineering experience and/or training Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.) from four-year college or university Previous FAA certification experience in the posted discipline.Distinguishing Education and/or Experience:
B. S. in an engineering discipline Equipment qualification experience related to the posted discipline (D)-160, DO-178, ASTM etc ) Supervisory experience within an engineering discipline Process development, mapping, deployment experience (Six Sigma Green belt, VSM, or others) Change Management and Configuration Management tool experience (JIRA, Windchill, or equivalent) Earned Value Management experience PMP certification Control Account Manager experience Pilot or Ground School experienceJob Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities:
Broad working knowledge of all Microsoft Office and Office 365 products and associated apps, including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Sharepoint, Visio, etc. Additionally, experience using and manipulating data with Power BI is preferred. Excellent and professional communication skills in all forms and formats (public speaking, team meetings, PowerPoint, memos, emails, charters, internal/external, etc.). Ability to understand and distill highly technical discussions, input, issues from the engineering/design team and communicate with other project groups, other areas of the IPT, and escalate upwards to project and company leadership as required. Highly adept at working with resources from a variety of on-site and off-site locations, including Cirrus employees and external suppliers using Microsoft internet and web conference tools (typically MS Teams). Exceptional facilitation skills to bring a cross-functional team together to accomplish tasks and goals. Good organizational skills and the ability to coordinate between disparate tasks. High attention to detail and accuracy. Timely completion of scheduled work. Good problem-solving skills with knowledge of six-sigma or lean office tools.Other Duties:
