Job Description

Position Purpose

The Sr Project Engineer will develop, seek approvals, and execute complex capital engineering projects in support of CHEP USA plant operations business objectives. This role will lead key transformational initiatives in support of longer-term automation strategies.

Major/Key Accountabilities

Lead Transformational initiatives by developing strategies and collaborating with cross-functional teams and external suppliers in alignment with longer terms goals to achieve a touchless pallet processing operation.Lead & Develop Continuous Improvement Equipment Strategies focused on MTBF and processing throughput improvementsLead the refinement and complete due diligence for New Initiatives and concepts that may be ambiguous in natureHolistic program management to bring new ideas/concepts to manufacturing with sustained operabilityCollaborate with Operations, Health & Safety, and Quality teams to develop, seek approval, and successfully implement Capital Equipment Projects in accordance with established schedule, cost, and performance standards. Development of CapEx documents to include cost estimates and project justification.Manage activities associated with capital project execution to include equipment layout and scope development, requests for quote, purchase order generation, contractor selection, on-site supervision during the installation and start-up of equipment, and proper tagging and accounting of new equipment, while using PMI standard Project ControlsEnsure that all necessary safe work practices are adhered to by both CHEP and contractor personnel, and all applicable local municipality construction permitting and environmental requirements are met. Effective and timely communications to Key Stakeholders beginning with project development and approval, through final commissioning and qualification.Utilization of the FAT, CQV, and Vertical Startup Processes with Suppliers and Operations teams, to ensure successful, timely project completionCoordinate training of on-site personnel as needed for system operation and maintenance.  Ensure proper handoff of completed projects to include as-built drawings, maintenance and operations manuals, and spare parts lists.Using fiduciary controls, manage capital budgets, and accurately forecast monthly spendingLead critical reviews of equipment design, by analyzing data, seeking to improve MTBF, increase efficiency/productivity, and highlight cost savings opportunitiesLead Supplier Development and Continuous ImprovementIdentifying and closing gaps in people, processes, and design

Project Engineer is mutually responsible for supporting the Supply Chain Team in achieving business objectives through Capital Equipment deployment.

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications:

Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Related Technical FieldCapital Equipment Project Management

Desirable Qualifications:

LeanPMI Certification

Experience:

5-10 years project engineering and/or related project management experienceLeading Continuous Improvement Equipment Design InitiativesOperations and/or Supply Chain experience, supporting productionEffective Communication and Collaboration with multiple levels within the organizationMaterial handling and automation experience, conveyance, robotics

Skills and Knowledge

Effective CommunicatorDemonstrates effective collaboration and teamworkFamiliar with project management methods and tools such as MS ProjectFamiliar with basic industrial electrical wiring, process piping, and machine guarding principlesFamiliarity with conveyor systems, material handling robotics a plusWorking knowledge of the use of AutoCADFamiliar with capital project justification methods (ROI, IRR, NPV)Basic financial management skills with a focus on capital expenditure
