Senior Project Engineer (Renewables)

POWER Engineers is currently accepting applications for a Renewables Senior Project Engineer in our Renewables Business Unit (RBU).  The position has responsibility for leading and growing a team in an existing department that performs source to point-of-interconnection (POI) work for transmission and distribution (microgrid) clients. Flexibility is available for a hybrid work environment (employee will need to live within driving distance of a POWER office). The position requires a solid understanding of renewables system design and engineering, basic knowledge of the renewables market in the US, and the ability to lead and execute work in line with cross-divisional renewables market strategy as directed by the Department Manager (DM) and Business Unit Director (BUD).

Roles and Responsibilities

The Renewables Senior Project Lead is responsible for managing lead engineers and designers on several medium-large size projects providing significant interface with our clients. They demonstrate creativity, foresight, and mature judgement in anticipating and solving major design problems, determining major project scope and objectives, and developing design capabilities within the organization. Key activities include, but are not limited to:

Grow and manage relationships with renewables and/or microgrid clients. Mentor less experienced staff in renewables project execution. Perform and direct others in the detailed design of source to POI medium to extra high voltage collector systems and substations and associated BESS, solar, and wind infrastructure, including one-line diagrams, elementary and wiring diagrams, Protective Relaying, Power System Planning Studies, Design Studies, Logic and Control Systems, SCADA, communications, conduit and cable sizing/routing, substation physical layouts, selection of substation equipment, writing of substation equipment specifications, proposal development, construction cost estimates, and project scheduling. Ensure POWER quality procedures are followed and that the team is resourced in an optimal manner. Perform QA/QC for deliverables to clients across multiple offices. Manage all schedule, budget, and quality of assigned projects. Required Education/Experience: BSEE/BSCE or BSEET/BSCET degree, from an accredited university preferably with a power option or equivalent experience Ten (10) + years of renewables, distribution, substation, or transmission industry experience Experience with proposal development. Ability to perform and direct others engineering activities associated with Protective Relaying, Power System Planning Studies, Design Studies, Networking and Communications, Logic and Control Systems, and Data Acquisition. Comprehensive experience with all of these activities is not required, however a demonstrated ability and willingness to expand applicants’ capabilities in these areas is critical. Experience leading and managing small project teams. Experience filling the role of project engineer for several projects occurring concurrently. The candidate must have strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills in order to work effectively with internal team members and external client personnel. Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. without the need for work sponsorship. Desired Education/Experience: Experience with, and established positive relationships with, renewables clients. Experience with supervision of technical staff. Experience with developing annual financial forecasts and managing the financial performance of a consulting engineering group.
