Job DescriptionAs an AECOM Senior Project Geotechnical Engineer, you will work with our Salt Lake City geotechnical group, as well as interdisciplinary groups from Salt Lake City and other offices, to deliver consulting services on rewarding infrastructure projects. Our group provides geotechnical services in a variety of sectors, primarily dams, levees, mining, civil works, transportation, and energy. You will have opportunities to work on local, national, and international projects, engaging in project life cycles from planning and site investigation through detailed design and construction.
As a Senior Project Geotechnical Engineer, you will have responsibilities to lead engineering analysis, design, and reporting to meet client needs and deliver on project commitments. You will mentor younger engineers and connect staff with experts throughout AECOM. You will be supported as you continue to develop your career as a geotechnical engineer. You will engage in developing technical expertise, managing projects, leading teams, supporting active project pursuits, and contributing to business development.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Provide geotechnical engineering and design support for dams, levees, mining, civil works, transportation, energy, and other projectsPlan, perform, and oversee geotechnical site investigations, including subsurface investigations, field and laboratory testing of soil and rock materialsPlan, oversee installation, monitor, and analyze associated data from geotechnical instrumentationPerform and/or support junior and mid-level engineers in completing geotechnical engineering calculations, analysis, and design; preparing geotechnical recommendations; writing and reviewing technical reports; and preparing and reviewing design drawings and specificationsProvide onsite field support and oversight for geotechnical and earthwork constructionPerform and/or support junior engineers in completing engineering reviews of existing infrastructure facilities, and preparing associated technical reports and evaluationsEffectively and proactively communicate with geotechnical and interdisciplinary team members, and exercise engineering judgement, to complete project objectives and meet client needsResearch and implement technical methods, standard techniques, procedures, regulations, and criteria to carry out or oversee engineering tasksAssume responsibility for projects, follow quality procedures and strive for quality and excellence in all work products, and perform work in an honest and ethical mannerParticipate in project management tasks and become an AECOM project managerSupport project pursuits and contribute to business development efforts in Utah and around the western United StatesMentor younger engineers to support their development and successBuild trusting working relationships with clients and colleaguesQualificationsMinimum Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering with a focus in geotechnical engineering from an ABET-accredited university + 6 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of education and/or experience.

Master’s degree in civil engineering with an emphasis in geotechnical engineeringLicensed Professional Engineer (PE) and ability to obtain licensure in Utah within 3 months8 years of geotechnical consulting experience2 years of project management experienceField, laboratory, analysis, and design experience supporting dams and levees projectsCompetency/proficiency in performing geotechnical analysis and design using engineering software such as Excel, gINT, GeoStudio (SEEP/W, SLOPE/W), PLAXIS, FLAC, UTEXAS, Settle3, AutoCAD/Civil 3D, and Visual BasicStrong verbal communication and technical writing skillsProficiency working in Excel and WordExperience and competency to complete job responsibilitiesAdditional InformationDue to the nature of the work U.S. Citizenship is required.Relocation is not available for this position.Regular project site travel is required.
