The Risk Management & Analysis (RMA) Department, part of MITRE’s Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) Division, focuses on identifying and mitigating threats to the company’s critical resources. These threats, posed by foreign adversaries, malign actors, and emerging conditions, can impact MITRE’s missions, relationships, contracts, and business pursuits within the U.S. government and global markets. The Strategic Program Protection (SP2) Group within RMA safeguards MITRE’s most critical and sensitive work, ensuring the delivery of uncompromised solutions for the nation’s most pressing challenges.

Position Description:

The Senior Project Management Specialist within SP2 plays a critical role in safeguarding MITRE programs by managing complex risk management initiatives, including new technology implementations, risk mitigation services, and related strategic initiatives. The ideal candidate will possess advanced project management skills, financial acumen and knowledge of corporate financial systems, and experience applying risk management methodologies in a matrixed organization, which will enable SP2 to deliver impact as an integrated element of MITRE’s ERM program.

Roles & Responsibilities:

Project Management:

Lead the planning, execution, and monitoring of multiple concurrent projects, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and objectives.

Manage project budgets, including financial tracking, forecasting, and invoicing, to ensure fiscal accountability and compliance.

Effectively communicate complex project information, interdependencies, and risks to stakeholders and leadership.

Coordinate cross-functional teams and resources to deliver high-quality project outcomes with defined schedules and budgets.

Monitor project performance and recommend adjustments to schedules, costs, or resources to address challenges and optimize outcomes.

Risk Management:

Develop and implement risk management strategies to identify, assess, and mitigate risks to sensitive research and development projects.

Engage with business stakeholders and ERM leadership to align business goals with organizational risk appetite and risk management processes.

Operational Excellence:

Apply advanced technical and administrative skills to solve complex problems and streamline operational processes.

Shepherd knowledge management and continuous improvement efforts across the department to up-level the effectiveness and efficiency of processes and procedures.

Financial Management:

Manage the financial performance and related compliance with new and emerging risk management services.

Serve as a trusted advisor to ERM leadership on business administration topics, including contracts, budgeting, purchasing, and property management.

Basic Qualifications:

Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 3 years with a Master’s degree; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.

Demonstrated experience with project, program, and risk management, including managing budgets, schedules, and deliverables.

Proficiency in financial management, including budgeting, staffing, forecasting, and invoicing processes.

Advanced technical and administrative skills, including proficiency in project management tools and software.

Ability to communicate complex issues clearly in a concise and organized manner both verbally and in writing.

Ability to work independently with limited supervision while coordinating team efforts to achieve objectives.

Intellectually curious with excellent problem-solving skills and an ability to dissect issues quickly to characterize emerging concerns, especially in a cross-functional and matrixed environment.

Active Top-Secret Clearance with the eligibility for TS/SCI clearance.

This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site.

Preferred Qualifications:

Advanced degree in Project Management, Business Administration, Risk Management, or a related field.

Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent credential.

Experience managing projects in a government contracting, FFRDC/UARC, or national security environment.

Familiarity with emerging technologies and their implementation in organizational settings.

Proven ability to develop and implement innovative processes and procedures to enhance project outcomes.

Multi-disciplinary background with technical knowledge and experience in at least two of the following: intelligence analysis, counterintelligence operations, risk management, program protection planning, industrial security, or operational security (OPSEC).

Experience with MITRE project and financial management tools, like Clarity, Ivalua, etc.

Active TS/SCI clearance.
