Job responsibilities: 

 

The delivery of the Westinghouse UK Fuel Growth Program is essential to the future nuclear fuel products for all current and future reactor types and is a fundamental part of the UK Government’s Nuclear Roadmap and Net Zero 2050 commitment. The portfolio is fundamental to the Westinghouse UK Fuel long-term strategy and essential for the growth of Springfields Fuels site. We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic professional to join our project team as a Senior Project Manager. The role will be varied and wide ranging with the successful candidate supporting a diverse portfolio of projects in a number of operational production plant, laboratory, and site infrastructure support areas. The responsibilities start at business planning and follow through bid, delivery to contract closure. The UK Fuel Business Unit is a dynamic and rapidly growing organization focused on winning fuel contracts for current reactor fuel types (PWR) and future generations (Gen4+) of reactor. The department  has expertise for all the current fuel types and intermediate products. The development of fuel routes at Springfields and winning contracts that serve our customers is the primary focus of the department. The Senior Project Manager shall be accountable to the UK Fuel Business Unit Portfolio Manager for all phases of Project(s) delivery from bid, sanction, implementation through to close out and lessons learnt. The projects will be complex, multi-disciplined and require conceptual design, detailed design, procurement, construction and commissioning phases. The senior project manager will be responsible for managing safety, time cost and quality from initiation to closeout. This role requires the application of knowledge and experience across a broad and deep range of product manufacturing, engineering and nuclear science disciplines. Strong analytical, decision making and stakeholder management skills are essential to be successful in this role. The Senior Project Manager will be required to interface directly with Westinghouse’s customers and senior stakeholders and will be accountable for ensuring that all projects are delivered in full compliance with Westinghouse and the customer’s requirements. The Senior Project Manager will be required to adopt both client and or contractor project management responsibilities depending on the project and the contracting model.

 

Duties and Responsibilitie:

 

Coordination and delivery of full project lifecycle from feasibility through bid and contract award to full outcome realisation. Responsible for managing the project team to develop plans, acquire the financial, human and physical resources and manage risk such that they deliver outcomes safely, economically and efficiently. Engages internal and external stakeholders to drive the best possible outcome for the business unit in achieving the project objectives to time cost and quality. The Senior Project Manager may have the responsibility for multiple projects running in parallel and therefore balances the project priorities with those of the ongoing business unit and operational plants. Uses leadership strategies, tools and traits to addresses the cultural and people issues associated with implementing change Risk and opportunity identification, evaluation and management Facilitation of appointments to the project teams and engages with functional managers to achieve the necessary skills and experience to meet the project’s objectives. Ensures that all projects are resourced with suitably qualified and experienced personnel and that projects are set up and delivered in compliance with the Westinghouse procedures. Holds seniority for the responsibilities and accountabilities within the project environment and be proactive and visible as the driving force behind the project plan Provides mentoring and training opportunities for less experienced project professionals ensure policies, practices and procedures. Manages and Reviews customer offers - including basis of estimate (scope) documents, risk and assumption modelling and costs provided to governance authorities. Provide leadership, guidance and handover to the post contract delivery of projects at an appropriate level. Handover will include the key project requirements, assumptions and deliverables. Leads problem-solving activities and seek opportunities to innovate and drive for solutions e.g., optioneering studies and investigations.­ This will require sound knowledge and understanding of the project’s benefits and the importance to our business. Ensures reporting at all levels up to the Business unit and Springfields Executive is effective and efficient and compliant with corporate procedures.

 

Education and Qualifications / Skills and Competencies:

 

Essential to have a professional qualification in project management, project controls, scientific or engineering discipline to BEng level. At least 5 years of experience at project manager level or above in high complexity, highly regulated environment. At least 5 further years of managing full lifecycle projects from business case, bid, initiation, execution, closeout & benefits realization

 

 

Senior Project Management Competencies

 

Strong commercial experience particularly in managing large vendors or service providers Leadership knowledge of CDM and NEC4 Understanding of the UK regulatory bodies and the requirements for delivering change within a nuclear licensed site. Good knowledge of budgeting and resource allocation procedures Leadership level competencies in planning, controlling and risk management within complex projects and Senior Projects
