The Michael Baker Alexandria office has seen significant growth over the course of the last few years. Additionally, Michael Baker continues to expand its local civil engineering practice, and to enable continued growth in Virginia and the greater DC Metro area, Michael Baker’s Alexandria office seeks a Senior Project Manager who will be focused on executing technical work, mentoring junior staff, and overall growth of the Civil Engineering Department.
We are looking for a leader who will participate in the office leadership team while also collaborating with their counterparts in our other regional offices to provide high quality civil engineering services. You will be directly involved with development and implementation of a business strategy and work with project teams while also helping to win work and expand our project portfolio and client base, primarily with municipal and state clients. You will be responsible for performing technical oversight, staff development, contract management, technical and cost proposal development, project performance, and client management for targeted clients across Virginia, Maryland, and DC.
You will leverage your engineering knowledge and skills to manage the preparation of civil engineering plans, site development projects, permit acquisitions, calculations, and reports, technical specifications, and construction services. You will have the opportunity to instruct and guide junior engineers in the development of engineering reports and analyses. General responsibilities of the successful candidate will include:
Assist with leading and growing the local civil engineering practice Foster growth with existing and new clients through exceptional communication, collaboration, and problem solving Lead design teams through development of project design and construction documents, including preparation of plans, design reports, cost estimates, specifications, permits, and construction services Take ownership and commitment to adhering to project timelines, budgets, project efficiency, and identifying, managing and tracking project changes Make staff assignments to maintain utilization and technical excellence Communicate client objectives, provide constructive feedback and mentoring, and identify and share lessons learned with teams Assure that technical quality of projects is achieved and enforce application of QA/QC process standards and requirements Develop civil engineering related proposals, scopes, and fees Responsible for performance evaluations, work allocation, training, and mentoring of staff Apply industry knowledge and professional experience to solve design challenges and develop and improve programmatic procedures. Actively assist leadership and business development teams with growth planning and actively engaging in project pursuits
PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering At least 15 years of related civil engineering experience Professional Engineering license is required – preferably VA and MD Must possess strong project management skills relating to design, coordination, and time management. Be a proactive resource to project teams in their decision-making processes and in the development of technically sound and innovative planning and design solutions. Develop and maintain positive client relations. Communicate design, construction, and other issues to clients in a clear and compelling way. Capable of leading project teams through design, permitting, and construction services for multiple projects simultaneously. Participate in marketing campaigns and interview teams, prepare proposals, and develop fees. Work closely with Sales Leads to track and support opportunities for key markets Demonstrated history of successful leadership and design of complex civil engineering projects, including design, permitting, and construction services Additional credentials and certifications are a plus#LI-AE1
COMPENSATION
The approximate compensation range for this position is $132,324 to $206,676. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
