The Role
The Property Broker will be mainly responsible for preparing slips, broking and issuing bespoke insurance policies for Property classes (Assets All Risks, Political Violence, Sasria) required by corporate Clients of Willis Towers Watson across South Africa and multi nationals. The jobholder will also provide technical knowledge and expertise to WTW colleagues and will engage in servicing and advising prospects and clients with regards to placements when requested. S/he will assist in the management of portfolio and works on products as required.
S/he will provide advisory services to clients directly or through account executives as required and will negotiate with insurers to obtain best terms, conditions, coverage and pricing for clients. Additionally, this role will require participation in overall WTW growth efforts, including participation in RFPs, new business presentations/prospecting, M&A due diligence and prospect auditing.
Essential accountabilities include but are not limited to:
Assessing and evaluating client risks in order to establish the cover and pricing required to meet the client’s needs Designing appropriate placement structures in order to obtain optimal cover and premium for clients. Keeping up to date on market solutions in order to identify and develop optimum risk solutions for clients. Ensuring that quality and compliance procedures and processes are adhered to. Managing complex new business placement, renewals and audits of existing cover Recording all information accurately on the appropriate systems. Drafting of bespoke insurance policies for corporate clients (in particular mining) Liaise/coordinate with wholesale and facultative reinsurance brokers in the structuring of the client’s placement Co-ordinating with client advocates from other departments that support the broking process Developing technical skills further and mentoring & training junior colleagues. Providing as second set of eyes analysis with respect to quotes against specifications, and binders against quotes. Checking all policy documentation including policy endorsements, renewal binders, and corrections and send to account managers once correct Supporting and building on local and national relationships with carriers Providing input into and attending internal client renewal strategy meetings presentation of terms and attending ad hoc client meetings as required Working with carriers to establish proprietary market/WTW offerings and wordings Acting as a subject matter expert and providing advisory services internally & externallyThe Requirements
Minimum 10 years’ industry experience broking corporate risks property risks with at least 5 years in mining businessSouth African Citizen FAIS compliant: RE5 as well as 120 credits at NQF level 5 (or relevant degree) Risk management and alternative risk transfer experience Ability to conduct research Understanding of required placement workflows Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities Experience in drafting bespoke Assets All Risks policies for large corporate clients Passion for excellence and detail orientation Self-motivation and entrepreneurial outlook with solid interpersonal skills Ability to be an effective team player and great ability to negotiate A focus on customer service as a key deliverable is essential High level of comfort presenting directly to C-Suite clients
