Looking to take the next step in your career? Hatch is currently seeking a highly motivated Protection & Control Relay Engineers to join the Energy team. This position can be located in Houston, TX; Tampa, FL or Pittsburgh, PA.

As the successful candidate, you will:

 

Works within a multi-discipline team to develop and/or review efficient and reliable electrical design packages for medium and high voltage substations. Performs design studies and demonstrate a good working knowledge of relay protections involving logic diagrams, calculations report, relay and coordination studies, power system calculations, including short circuit calculation and instrument transformer rating selection. Experience in Aspen or CAPE (preferable), or equivalent, as a primary tool to run protection system coordination studies, interpret results and develop optimal protection settings. Knowledge of protection schemes and philosophies commonly applied at Transmission, and Distribution substations, especially, lines, transformers, generators, busbars, capacitors and reactors. Work with relays from major suppliers such as SEL, Hitachi, Siemens and GE. Ability to read and interpret electrical single lines, three lines, schematics, functional diagrams, etc. Assist project manager to develop scope of work and conceptual design for the projects. Perform quality control and peer checking on settings calculation, documentation, and fault analysis studies. Coordinates design activities to maintain project schedules, budget, quality requirements to ensure successful project completion. Delivers accurate and thorough electrical designs that will meet industry standard specifications and meet prudent engineering practices. Reviews internal and external designs for code compliance, good design practice and constructability. Familiar with NERC PRC and CIP standards. Maintains complete project documentation with respect to relay settings, engineering studies and calculations, all design packages, as-built requirements and return data information. Maintains good working relationship with internal groups that support projects such as other engineering disciplines, Drafting, Project Management etc. Mentors and provide guidance to developing or jr. engineers within the department.

 

You bring to the role:

 

Required

Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized institution. Minimum of 5-10 years of professional experience focused on the development of protection philosophies, and relay settings development. Experience in relay setting calculations and coordination of Intelligent Electronic Devices and Numerical Relays. Must have ability to use CAPE or equivalent software program (ASPEN). Knowledge of applicable industry standards including the National Electric Code (NEC), National Electric Safety Code (NESC), and IEEE. A high level of interpersonal communication skills, including a strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills. Ability to perform independently and in a team environment and provide project ownership. Travel to client sites as required.

 

Preferred 

A Professional Engineer (PE) registration is a plus. Prior utility consulting experience is a plus. Experience with IEC 61850 is a plus.
