ESM Power, part of Mitie Power & Grid, deliver projects on Solar, BESS and other HV Electrical systems. Our HQ in Lincolnshire is the ESM Power main hub, however our projects span the length and breadth of the UK. The ESM Power Commercial Dept. manage all Commercial and Procurement activity across the ESM Power business, working closely with our colleagues in Tendering, Operations, Programming / Planning, Finance & HSQE.
The Senior QS, reporting to the Commercial Manager will be responsible for the commercial management of projects and will utilise existing commercial systems and processes to deliver profitable performance in line with Business Objectives.
This role will take commercial responsibility for the company's larger projects and provide support where required to the project managers on smaller projects. To include all aspects of post Contract award Commercial Management, including but not limited to cost & value Reporting, change management, project end life forecasting, cash collection & cash flow forecasting, effective procurement & subcontract management, financial and contractual management and effective controls to ensure a profitable outcome for the business. Assisting the wider project team with Commercial guidance as and when required and forming effective working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
Main Duties
Draft, review and negotiate terms and conditions of subcontracts post tender award Build and manage relationships with chosen subcontractors Provision of commercial and contractual support to the tendering and bidding process Responsible for the management and governance of all aspects of multiple contracts in accordance with commercial procedures and KPI's, to include forecasting, budget management and control Monitor the performance of works ensuring all deadlines are met, manage and mitigate potential commercial disputes Lead contract commercial reviews Implement progress and cost management reviews, preparation and presentation of contract specific progress reports and active participation in contract reviews and/or customer meetings Ensure a proactive approach to positive cashflow at all times Track and manage any contractucal change, ensuring both additional time and cost are captured and communicated in line with Contractual obligations Work closely with both Project and Programme Managers to effectively deliver projects in line with tendered expectations Own the CVR Process Closely monitor any potential liquidated damages or other penalty mechanisms and report as neccessary Travel to our project sites will be required on an ad-hoc basis, overnight stays will be a requirement of the roleWhat we are looking for Relevant qualification in Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management ideally at degree level and hold professional qualification such as RICS are both desirable, but not essential Previous Experience in a similar project based role, ideally in a similar or related industry, e.g. engineering, utilities, construction or rail Experience of working within a contractor and/or project environment Experience of working on NEC3/4, FIDIC & JCT forms of Contract (all 3 forms desirable but not essential) An excellent communicator who can build strong relationships, both internally and externally A team player who can and will support the wider dept.
