Senior Quality Engineer

Coherent Corp., located in Plymouth, MI, is looking for a Senior Quality Engineer to join our Laser Systems business unit.  The Senior Quality Engineer has responsibility for developing, implementing, and maintaining quality assurance and control systems for the Global Tools Group in North America. This role will report directly to the BU Leader, coordinate with the Coherent Corporate Quality function and work across various functional teams in multiple factory locations.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Defines and specifies the implementation of standards, methods and procedures for inspecting, testing and evaluating the precision, accuracy and reliability of company products Responsible for planning, implementing and managing compliance of manufacturing and production process with internal and external safety, quality and regulatory standards/requirements for worldwide distributions. Assures compliance to in-house and/or external specifications and standards, such as GMPs and ISO 9001 regulations Designs, Implements and maintains quality assurance protocols and methods for processing materials into partially finished or finished products. Conduct training on quality assurance systems Designs methods and procedures for inspecting, testing and evaluating the precision and accuracy of production processes, production equipment and finished products. Performs or confirms production and quality control audits Performs analysis of reports and production data to identify trends and recommend updates or changes to quality standards and procedures when necessary. Assists product support areas in gathering and analyzing data Participates in the reviewing of engineering designs to contribute quality requirements and considerations Conduct vendor evaluation audits to determine qualifications Manage calibration requirements of all the equipment’s in the facility and complete Do gauge study as required Serves as Lean Coordinator for the Plymouth facility Serves as Facility Safety Officer for the Plymouth facility. Including by not limited to; conducting safety audits, management of safety polices and employee training, and incident investigations.  Perform other duties as assigned

Education & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field or 4 or more years of experience in a Quality Assurance / Quality Control position required Lean Six sigma certification preferred Minimum of 5 years of QA/QC work experience preferred Previous experience with inspecting methods in the design, fabrication, and production of electro-mechanical equipment Previous experience Lean Manufacturing and ISO 9001 QMS Audit Previous experience with safety program implementation as well as familiarity with MSDS and OSHA requirements Previous QA/QC experience for a custom or semi-custom product-based business Previous experience as a stand-alone QA-QC resource for a facility or product-lines; direct responsibility for determining the strategy to meet quality objectives with the available resources as well as tactical execution

Demonstrated project planning and management capabilities, experience with change management Demonstrated ability to influence others; ability to drive results with or without formal authority Ability to work both independently and in a team environment Strong prioritization skills Strong written communication skills 

Working Conditions

Work is performed in both an office and manufacturing environment.

Physical Requirements

Sit and/or stand for an 8-hour shift.
