Abbott Transfusion Medicine is a global leader in in vitro diagnostics and offers a broad range of innovative instrument systems and tests for hospitals, reference labs, blood banks, and clinics. As a Senior Quality Engineer, you will provide essential Process and Quality Engineering support to manufacturing, ensuring the delivery of the highest quality products to our customers. Additionally, you will support product development teams to ensure the creation of top-quality new products. **What You’ll Work On** + **Defect Reduction and Control:** Lead efforts and teams to identify primary root causes of manufacturing process defects (scrap, nonconforming material, customer complaints) and implement corrective and preventative actions. + **Product Stops and Release Criteria:** Implement product stops and document release criteria as needed. + **Quality Plans and Documentation:** Develop and implement product quality plans, documents, and systems, including product specifications, quality specifications, quality plans, risk analyses, and FMEAs, in collaboration with product development team members. + **Risk Analyses and FMEAs:** Conduct risk analyses and FMEAs as required. + **Process Monitoring Systems:** Develop and implement Process Monitoring Systems by identifying critical process steps that could lead to manufacturing defects and devising methods to reduce process variation and eliminate defects. + **Data Collection and Analysis:** Collect and analyze manufacturing process defect data (e.g., scrap, nonconforming product, customer complaints) to support product/process improvement efforts and enhance sustaining product design and new product development. + **Quality Tools and Training:** Create quality tools and training materials by applying expertise and communicating with respective teams. + **Staff Development:** Participate in the development of less experienced staff by setting an example, providing guidance and work direction, and offering counsel. May lead a project team. + **Project Goals and Objectives:** Participate in determining goals and objectives for projects and influence middle management on technical or business solutions. + **Vendor Interaction:** Interact with vendors as necessary. + **Planning and Organization:** Plan and organize non-routine tasks with approval, initiate or maintain work schedules, and establish priorities for work assignments. + **Decision Making and Impact:** Exercise judgment in selecting innovative, practical methods to achieve problem resolution. Failure to obtain results or erroneous decisions or recommendations could result in serious program delays and considerable expenditure of resources. **Education and experience you’ll bring:** **Required:** + A bachelor’s degree in Life Science, Engineering, or a closely related discipline; OR an equivalent combination of education and work experience. + Minimum of 5 years in quality or related field experience; wide application of technical principles, practices, and procedures. Strong understanding of business unit functions and cross-group dependencies/relationships. + This job will be performed in a quality system environment. Failure to adequately perform tasks can result in noncompliance with governmental regulations. + Works on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors. Exercises judgment within generally defined practices and policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.
