We are currently recruiting a Senior Quantity Surveyor to support commercial aspects of project delivery. Reporting to the Commercial Manager the Senior Quantity Surveyor will support project teams, which commercial, financial and contract related matters
The Senior Quantity Surveyor will provide a first-class service to the client and projects delivery teams, using industry best practise.
As part of our investments into this new team we want hire new team members at Senior Quantity Surveyor levels with experience in dynamic Project environments. Skill sets focussed around Contract and Sub Contract management, value generation, cost control and IT skills are highly desirable. Working as part of a growing Project team and helping to drive forward a strong team culture are also highly desirable. Good contractual working knowledge is required along with an appreciation of the governance controls that form part of working in a large multi disciplinary organisation.
The role will be both site and office based in South Wales, working for a government client.
The successful candidate will need to undertake security clearance checks. Security Clearance is a mandatory requirement for this role.
Main Duties
Responsibilities
To maximise the successful running and commercial control of each project. Accurate management of projects through budgeting and reporting to enable each to be delivered in accordance with contract conditions in the most cost-effective manner possible.
Work with the Commercial Manager and help manage a team of other Quantity Surveyors offering support and guidance where required and assist in the delivery of the contract Careful review of tender documents to identify exact requirements and identify potential risks Create a schedule of works, Budget or quantify the Bill of Quantities if and when required Work on a Traditional drawings and specification tenders Issue out enquiries together with relevant drawings, prelim elements and specifications Complete quotation analysis comparison and make selection for inclusion in priced tender Attend meetings with the client and/or their representatives and present the companies position Assess individual rates and prices, amend, create new or insert from material and sub-contract quotations Review the budget/allowances with the relevant Project Manager to identify if the construction period or costs can be reduced Re-assess build-ups taking account of all known conditions and requirements and adjust figures if necessary Review procurement programme/schedules with Project Managers and liaise with the buyer(s)regards site supply of materials and specialist requirements Review procurement programme/schedules with the Project Manager and send enquiries and/or tender packages to sub-contractors and suppliers so that orders can be placed in time to meet the programme Select sub-contractors from the approved Sub-contractors list to ensure competence and resource are consistent with the scope/scale of the contract Manage procurement of sub-contract packages, labour only packages and suppliers utilising where appropriate Sub Contract Documentation or Purchase Orders Prepare and manage labour, plant & materials project budget costs Assist in the preparation of reports for contract review meetings Prepare monthly forecast reports Prepare and submit periodic valuations and invoices including all supporting information for claims and variations Manage variations and ensure all additional works are recorded in line with the contract, adequate records are maintained to ensure full revenue recovery Complete, submit & negotiate agreement of final accounts Attend sub-contractor pre-contract meetings along with the Contracts Manager to ensure prospective sub-contractors are fully compliant Manage sub-contractors once appointed including measurement of sub-contract works, check and approve sub-contract claims for payment, liaise with sub-contractors to review performance and settlement of sub-contract Final Accounts Provide guidance and advice to other Project team members Monitor and manage workload for direct reports Develop direct reports and monitor their performance

Knowledge, skills & experience
Essential
Qualified to HND or Degree Level in Quantity Surveying Excellent understanding of Projects 5 years experience in a similar role Self-motivated with a flexible approach to work, and capable of working to challenging deadlines Knowledge of contract law and demonstrable knowledge of NEC suite of contracts Mobile and available to travel between sites to meet business needs. Able to evaluate tender submissions and produce analytical reports. Financial and commercial acumen and awareness., including current contract legislation. Analytical and a proactive approach to problem solve Excellent numerical and communication skills Proficient in Microsoft Office packages Advanced proficiency in Excel Excellent customer service skills Knowledge of application of payment mechanisms Experience of negotiating contracts terms to successful close outDesirable
Member of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS) or willing to work toward membershipPerson
