Senior R&D Applications Engineer 1

The Applied Research Test Technology Division in Albuquerque, NM is looking for a candidate for the position of Research and Development Engineer. In this role, you will assist the Engineering and Scientific staff in performing integration of COTS software/hardware with unique test articles and research platforms. This position is responsible for specifying and installing control systems and maintaining and coding new applications to optimize performance. You will gain a deep understanding of defense research projects that are related to ordinance and energetics. In addition to your technical role, you will assist with program management, planning and budgeting, and status reporting. 

Position Responsibilities: 

The ability to interface with customers/executives and communicate effectively with key stakeholders and subsequently manage team members towards meeting project objectives.  Support engineering design development through analysis and simulation of prototypes and 3D computer models  Assist with engineering calculations, design drawings, preliminary cost estimates   Read and interpreted blueprints, technical drawings, schematics and computer-generated reports 

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience): 

Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Clearance  Ability to work in outdoor remote test environments such as the Chestnut range, TEAMS, PHETS, Stallion, etc. areas of KAFB and WSMR, as well as NNSS   Ability to lift 50 lbs.  Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent work or military experience   Experience with automation and control systems and software such as National Instruments, Allen Bradley and/or other custom data acquisition and control system to include custom subcomponents.  Ability to design and prototype custom interface circuitry for sensor interfaces and mechanical device controls.  Experience with RF signal processing  Be able to read schematic diagrams and support assembly of test setups and field testing.  Supervise layout, fabrication, assembly and installation of experimental electrical and/or mechanical test hardware.   Possess critical thinking skills and be able to work collaboratively.  Experienced in prototyping, simulating and testing integrated sensor systems, electronic controls, and electronic interfaces for sensors and related equipment   Project management, including cost estimating, cost management, work-breakdown structures, and status reporting.   Electrical/Electronic design   Technical drawing and drafting for build to print packages   AutoCAD-electrical, SolidWorks  

Typical Education/Experience: 

Typically, four (4) or more years of related work experience or relevant military experience.

This position offers relocation based on candidate eligibility. 

Work Shift: 

This position is salaried at 40 hours per week on a DoD Government facility. Requires work outdoors at all times of year at a moderate level of activity. 

Summary pay range: $135,000 - $152,550
