**We are currently recruiting for a Senior Radiation Protection Engineer**
**To provide detailed technical RP advice to enable delivery of work whilst maintaining compliance with relevant legislation and company and client standards. Provide support to the design and planning of work and the review of products, technology and processes, including the optimisation of Radiological Protection arrangements. To provide Radiological Protection support and oversight of practical delivery of operational decommissioning work.**
**Location:**
**This role is based at a client site in the Reading area. Flexible/Hybrid working is encouraged, but significant time will be required on site. Travel may be required.**
**Essential Responsibilities:**
**Reporting to the Head of Profession for RP, the essential responsibilities of the RP Engineer are as follows:**
**To enable the delivery of work in complex environments, removing unnecessary obstacles to delivery whilst maintaining robust compliance with regards to relevant Ionising Radiations legislation and policies.**
**To aid in developing, and then executing detailed radiological protection programmes in support of project delivery.**
**To support the assessment and management of decision making with regards to licence condition compliance, most notably the modifications process under LC22.**
**Provide expert-level advice on Radiological Protection matters to ensure compliance with Ionising Radiation Regulations and any mandatory company and/or client policies on sites.**
**Taking a leading role within the Radiological Protection team, acting as the responsible point of contact for Radiological Protection on project work.**
**Supporting in the development of Project Execution Plans to ensure a fit-for-purpose approach is taken to each project.**
**Seeking out potential innovations to projects and advising project teams and/or clients of lean delivery options.**
**Directing and supporting Graduate Trainees and Assistant Radiation Protection Engineers as required, including to meet project aims and their personal development targets.**
**Developing Radiological Protection arrangements for projects, including documentation such as, Radiological Risk Assessments, Radiological Design Documents, Critical Examinations, Dose Estimates, Local Rules, Contingency Plans and Investigation Reports.**
**Review of radiological monitoring data for operational packages of work.**
**Liaise with inspectors and regulators during inspections, audits and investigations as required.**
**Delivery of ALARP assessments.**
**Support Best Available Technique assessments and other optioning processes.**
**Advise on radioactive waste aspects of project as required with support from other specialists, if necessary.**
**Work with projects and clients to help solve complex and challenging problems while maintaining excellent relationships with our customers and suppliers.**
**Support colleagues learning and development through training delivery, sharing of knowledge and experience.**
**Undertake line management responsibilities as required.**
**Take accountability for the standard of their own work, the work of any junior RP project staff and any direct reports through the line management chain, taking direction from Senior RP Engineer as appropriate.**
**Perform all other similar related duties as assigned or requested by the Head of RP.**
**Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:**
**Educated to NQF Level 6 (Batchelors Degree or equivalent) in a scientific or engineering related discipline, or demonstrable equivalent capability supported by significant experience.**
**A detailed understanding of Ionising Radiation Regulations 2017 compliance is essential.**
**Experience within Radiological Protection is essential.**
**The ability to meet deadlines is essential.**
**The ability to manage a workload with low levels of supervision is essential.**
**Knowledge of the Environmental Permitting Regulations / Radioactive Substance Act is highly desirable.**
**Being a member of a relevant professional institute is desirable.**
**A basic level of commercial awareness is desirable.**
**This role requires a good level of initiative. Regarding work, RP Engineers are expected to recognise issues or needs as they arise, identify solutions, act to implement solutions and report back immediately.**
**We need all candidates to ideally be Security Cleared (SC) or have no issue in obtaining SC.**
