We're looking for an experienced senior regulatory counsel to join Discord’s legal team! Reporting to the Vice President and Deputy General Counsel for Litigation and Regulatory Compliance, you'll lead and implement Discord’s regulatory response and proactive legal engagement strategy for the EU/UK and Australia on matters involving online safety and content moderation, and supporting in other regions as available. If you like things predictable and routine - this is not the role for you! This role can be based in Amsterdam, Netherlands or London, England.
What you'll be doing:
Lead and implement Discord's responses to regulatory requests including: assess the incentive (or threat) posed to Discord by the inquiry; gather and organize responsive data and information; and draft accurate, compelling responses that meet our obligations and further Discord’s interests Meet with and present to relevant regulatory authorities on Discord’s approach to regulatory compliance Collaborate with product counsel on regulatory responses and to advise on regulatory compliance-related product updates Monitor new and updated regulations and anticipate enforcement risks Collaborate with our public policy and communications teams in connection with Discord’s safety communications strategy and play a role in presenting our narrative Maintain up-to-date canonical templates for company practices and positions on topics such as privacy, security, teen safety, etc. Depending on overall workload and interest, you may help to defend Discord by responding to consumer complaints, small claims, and other consumer-related issues; and manage defensive matters depending on size and complexityWhat you should have:
10+ years working in regulatory legal related to Internet regulation (e.g., user safety, minor safety, privacy, data protection, consumer protection) In-depth knowledge of regulatory landscapes across UK/EU and/or Australia, including UK & Australian Online Safety Act and EU Digital Services Act. Knowledge of GDPR, AI Act, privacy rights, data protection, consumer protection, and relevant industry standards is a plus. Experience meeting with applicable regulators in one or more of the UK, EU and Australia Experience preparing and submitting responses to requests for information or other inquiries from relevant regulatory agencies License to practice law in a relevant jurisdiction Experience working with or for a company or companies in the social media, communication/ messaging, content or gaming spaces Demonstrated experience managing projects, prioritizing, and achieving results Ability to work collaboratively, independently, strategically, and with sound judgment Excellent emotional intelligence Commitment to diversity, inclusion, and belongingBonus Points:
