Job Description

SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Crew Supervisor or other Supervisor associated with a specific Facilities Maintenance & Engineering Trade Shop, the Senior Repairer performs a variety of routine basic maintenance and repair tasks involved with carpentry, painting, plumbing, steam fitting, electrical and mechanical.  Provides first rate customer service to the University Community.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

As a team leader or working independently, works in the painting of wood, metal, brick and cement walls, floors, and ceilings of the interior and exterior of buildings; the staining, varnishing and refinishing of cabinets, desks, chairs and other furnishings and equipment; and the painting and repainting of pipes, radiators, tin roofs, and other types of iron work.As a team leader or working independently, works in the repair and maintenance of walls, ceilings, interior and exterior brickwork, tile floors, drains, cement and concrete floors, sidewalks, steps, foundations, and other types of masonry, plastering and stonework.As a team leader or working independently, works in the repair and maintenance of water, drainage, waste and gas lines; toilet bowls, wash basins, and urinals; and radiators, refrigerators, laundry machines and other types of plumbing and steam fitting fixtures, fittings, appliances and machinery.As a team leader or working independently, works in the repair and maintenance of buildings, office furniture, screens, storm sashes, frames, windows, ceilings, partitions, and other types of carpentry work.As a team leader or working independently, works in the installation, inspection, repair, and maintenance of cables, wiring, motor, generators, pumps, refrigerators, radios, sound equipment, telephone line switchboard, oil burners, and other type of electrical equipment, appliance fixtures, machinery, and circuits.As a team leader or working independently, works in the repair and maintenance of copper leaders, gutters and slate roofs, including the operations of flashing, papering, cutting and punching prior to the installation of slate; pots, steamers, cans, pails, and other kitchen and dairy equipment; and ventilators, air duct, and weatherproofing equipment.As a team leader or working independently, works in the cleaning and repair of boilers, the repairing of locks, and the repair and maintenance of automobiles, trucks, snow plow, and sand spreaders.Performs welding and/or brazing operations to repair furniture or equipment.Assigns work and supervises performance of unskilled and semi-skilled maintenance, repair and laboring work of a helper.Performs duties on all buildings on campus and all exterior features on campus.Uses work orders and fills in all pertinent information.Follows all safety procedures including wearing uniform and appropriate protective personal equipment.Ensures that all staff and customers are treated with respect and courtesy.All customers to be greeted, questioned as to their needs, advised of any necessary information and thanked for their business in a pleasant manner. Staff is to be treated similarly.Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and computerized management information systems used by the Facilities Maintenance & Engineering.Performs other duties as assigned.Management retains the right to add or change job duties at any time.

QUALIFICATIONS:

REQUIRED: 

Two (2) years of experience in work involving the inspection, repair and general maintenance of household, office and other equipment, fixtures, fittings, appliances, machinery, furnishings, and buildings.Appointees will be required to possess a driver’s license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of the vehicle rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.Knowledge of standard tools, materials and methods.Ability to work with diverse populations and in a team.Ability to understand and follow safety procedures.Ability to read speak and understand English sufficiently to perform duties of this position.Must be available to work all shifts, weekends and holidays.

PREFERRED:

Ability to analyze/trouble shoot problems.High School Diploma or GED certificate.

*This position is designated as essential. The designation of essential requires employees at these 24/7 facilities to be present due to inclement weather situations. This position requires on campus work and is not a position that allows remote work.

O14: $44,730.37 -$62,734.87 Salary Note: Salaries for internal candidates are determined by the New Jersey Civil Service Commission’s formula. Salaries for external candidates are determined up to step four, $50,731.87
