What We Want The Senior Research Development Officer assists the Director and Associate Director of the Energy Institute in setting strategic goals and working on joint activities. This position also works collaboratively with government entities, energy companies, and other partners (internal and external) to apply science and technology to develop technologies for sustainable energy production, conversion, energy storage, energy distribution and energy efficiency; and examines policy implications related to energy production, implementation of new energy technologies, and environmental sustainability. Qualifications Required Education and Experience: + Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in training and experience. + Four years of experience developing or writing proposals. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: + Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others. + Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications. + Oral and written communication skills. + Organizational skills. + Ability to independently make decisions. Preferred Qualifications: + Master’s degree. + Two years of relevant professional experience and reputation in the field. + Experience in managing a research/academic workforce and working knowledge of conducting research, proposal development, and administering research through institutions of higher education. Responsibilities + RESEARCH FUNDING INITIATIVES: Works with collaborative research teams and individual researchers in writing and editing proposal narratives and preparing required supplemental documents for submission, including budgets, budget justifications, letters of support or endorsement, etc. Analyzes notices that are received from government and private agencies regarding energy research and funding opportunities. Analysis will include determination of type of research/energy/required expertise/etc., appropriate University/System recipients, and summarizing the opportunity and next steps for the recipients before distributing each funding opportunity to appropriate faculty and administrators. Researches, locates, and reports on renewable energy initiatives; analyzes and determines the appropriate recipients and notifies them with a summary of the current information on these strategic initiatives. Ensures that faculty stay current on the daily changes that occur in current, projected or associated funding opportunity relative to energy initiatives, energy policies from government administration, and potential funding cuts to certain energy research and projects. Serves as liaison between research teams or individuals and funding agencies with regard to funding program developments or questions/clarifications on specific funding announcements. Coordinates submissions with the sponsored research services office. Ensures that all submissions are complete and liaises with writers of proposals and those who submit. + ADMINISTRATIVE ACTIVITIES: Collaborates with EI team to establish office priorities, new initiatives, and strategic goals. Provides support for the EI Director and Associate Directors on special projects, research, web searches, and other duties as requested. Manages fellowship and internship programs, including distributing announcements, verifying application compliance, announcing awards, and all other communication with recipients. Manages internal seed grant funding program, including distributing announcements, verifying proposal compliance, announcing awards, and almost all other communication with recipients. Assists with the content for portions of research proposals, including editing and writing portions of proposals for the University to partner with outside industry on energy projects and research that generates research funds for TAMU. Serves as backup for phone and visitors to office. Informs Texas A&M Energy Club and the Energy Research Society about funding opportunities that target energy clubs and individual fellowships or scholarships that may be available for student members. Assists Energy Club in identification of speakers for their various lecture/seminar series. Promotes Energy Club and Energy Research Society activities to faculty groups and/or other student organizations. + WEBSITE MANAGEMENT: Disseminates notices about research progress and successful TAMU funding. Posts new funding opportunities; energy news and events; Texas A&M Energy Club events and other student activities; and faculty awards, honors, and promotions. Maintains faculty expertise webpages and entry of new faculty members. Monitors agency news services for announcements of new program initiatives, funded awards, and new energy publications and posts data accordingly.
