The team you'll be part of
The Advanced Systems Engineering unit at Nokia Technologies is a focused and experienced organization that deepens our engineering capabilities and skills as we look into new patent and technology licensing opportunities and product development areas. The team plays a central role at Nokia Technologies in various systems development, product incubation, product management and technology licensing activities.
Our primary mission is to facilitate the adoption of new technologies and innovations from Nokia and take the technologies to the next level. We turn innovations into successful product incubation and product development activities in order to create new revenue streams and technology licensing opportunities for Nokia. In addition, we contribute to patenting and licensing activities that hold the potential to significantly impact the fields of multimedia and adjacent technologies.
We have extensive experience in R&D work, as well as a proven track record in creating inventions and commercially successful products over the past several decades.
Your skills and experience
We assume that you have:
already completed a M.Sc. or Ph.D. degree in physics, optical engineering, photonics or related fields with experience on display/optics/imaging system design and development extensive understanding of some of the following areas: diffractive optics, electromagnetic theory, ray tracing, computational photonics experience with tools such as Ansys Zemax OpticStudio, Python, Matlab, or similar at least some hands-on experience in creating prototype solutions for diffractive opticsIt would be great if you also have:
previous experience in creating inventions and patent filings experience in optical measurements and/or studies on visual experience scientific publications and prior knowledge of academic co-operation experience with discussions with commercial vendors in areas related to optical technologiesIn this role, you will be expected to spend at least some time travelling and meeting vendors and our customers. The work may also include trips related to trade shows and other customer engagement activities.
We hope that you would be open to work in Tampere – the home base of the majority of our development activities. However, depending on the candidate other locations can be considered.
Nokia offers excellent opportunities for remote work. However, given the hands-on nature of our work, a significant part of your work is expected take place on premises in our development sites and laboratories.
What you will learn and contribute to
We are currently looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Senior Research Engineer or Researcher in Physical Optics to contribute to the research and development of cutting-edge augmented reality (AR) display solutions targeting especially the automotive sector.
This role involves designing and building geometric and diffractive optics and waveguide-based optical systems for automotive head-up displays, while tackling research challenges with an innovative approach.
As part of our team, you will:
design geometrical and physical optics systems, diffractive and waveguide-based optics research prototypes and participate in the validation of the designs develop strategic waveguide optics innovations from concept to design and realization develop and implement tools for optical system design and analysis turn your research and development work into valuable inventions and actively participate in our patent creation activities participate in customer projects and discussions with external vendors and business partnersCome join us and make an impact!
