Lighthouse Institute, a division of Chestnut Health Systems, is seeking a full-time, Senior Research Scientist .  This position could be fully remote or operate out of our Eugene, OR facility. 

 

Chestnut Health Systems is a leading provider of behavioral and primary health care services. Over four decades, Chestnut has grown to over 700 committed, compassionate employees providing substance use, mental health and primary care treatment to patients in Central and Southern Illinois. We provide fully integrated care for all of our patients by combining behavioral health care services with our community-based primary care health centers. Chestnut also conducts research and training throughout the U.S.A.

Responsibilities FUNDING: Plan, develop, and submit grant and project proposals as Principal Investigator (or lead Methodological Expert for advanced methods proposals), for other CHS divisions and LI. It is expected that these activities will significantly contribute support to LI infrastructure and staff..PROJECT LEADERSHIP: Serve as a Principal Investigator (or lead Methodological Expert for advanced methods projects), Investigator, Research Project Evaluator, and/or Director. Direct/manage multiple concurrent funded and unfunded projects using both established as well innovative protocols for achieving study aims. Also expected to lead a clear program of research or technical skills that is are core part of LI’s infrastructure.PUBLICATIONS AND PRODUCTS: Lead and work to define, research, analyze and publish findings on LI research projects. Research the relevant literature to help design studies, select appropriate measures, develop research protocols, conduct analyses, make presentations and publications. Conduct analyses for papers, major studies, or progress reports in collaboration with senior staff and programmers. Lead and support research presentations, papers and other products stemming from work.TECHNICAL EXPERTISE: Recognition as a national experiment via awards and citations and serve as a technical consultant to or assist LI staff, CHS divisions, and LI/CHS managers as requested. Stay abreast of developments within select fields of interest to LI/CHS.MENTORING: Mentor other scientists in getting articles published and submitting grants. SUPERVISION: Select, train, and supervise research staff. Develop and maintain written principles and procedures for evaluation, training, and consultation practice.Coordinate the orientation of new evaluations and training staff to LI procedures.CULTURE AND SERVICE: Promote Chestnut’s culture of customer service excellence through the adherence to Chestnut’s behavioral standards for customer service.CONFIDENTIALITY AND SECURITY: Maintain and protect confidentiality and security of all organization information gained in the course of performing job responsibilities including, but not limited to, financial and client information.OTHER: Other duties consistent with qualifications and training. Qualifications Doctoral degree in criminology, economics, epidemiology, nursing, psychology, psychiatry, public health, social work, sociology, or a related field.Demonstrated experience in either measurement, statistics, psychometric analyses, methodology, advanced qualitative analysis, or mixed methods analysis.Training in human subjects’ research protocols and ethical conduct of researchDistinguished contributions in the human services research field as evidenced by a successful publications record (i.e., 50+ peer-reviewed journal articles), including numerous (i.e., 25+) first- or second-author peer-reviewed publications and many (i.e., 10+) first-author peer-reviewed publications (or else 5+ as first author for a Lead Methodologist with 15+ as second author).Demonstrated continuously increasing scholarship in one or more major research (books, editorships, awards, major review articles), high citation indices(H10 >20; most cited article >200), and prior positions as endowed chair or principal scientist of a research lab (or methodology group).Multiple Grants Funded – 3+ grants with PI/MPI status that employs a group of people (e.g., a lab, center, or program of research) or key methods/economist/statistical person who provides value added as Lead Methodologist Co-Investigator to one or more such groups that has 6+ grants/contracts.Preferred 10 or more years of experience doing applied research.Preferred people with lived experience (i.e., in recovery from substance use and/or formerly involved with the adult or juvenile justice system) and/or applicants from underrepresented populations.Successful experience working in an environment with multiple stakeholders, multiple sources of qualitative/quantitative data, and a team approach.Ability to communicate with non-technical, clinical, administrative, and statistical staff, good customer service approach and flexibility, strong technical skills and attention to detail, able to meet deadlines.Ability to define problem, ask questions of other staff before and during project development, draft list of deliverables for review, and revise upon receipt of comments.Capable of working with team to define task, managing its progress independently, reporting back, and revising as necessary.Ability to directly supervise assigned staff, and provide supportive and corrective feedback as appropriate.Ability to mentor research scientists and other staff to enhance their own career development.Excellent organizational, oral, and written communication skills. Willingness to work flexible hours to meet key project deadlines and to travel to research sites and/or professional meetings when necessary.Satisfactory completion of Chesnut's background checking process.

The anticipated starting pay for new hires for this position is between $203,700 - $226,333 annual salary. There are several factors taken into consideration in determining base pay, including but not limited to: job-related qualifications, skills, education, experience, local market conditions, and internal equity.
