Scope of PositionResponsible for supporting projects in polymer synthesis and coating formulation within the Organic Materials Directorate. This group provides subject matter expertise in the areas of coatings, inks, and adhesives to solve problems across all Corning businesses. He or she will be expected to document results from experiments and share with supervisor and/or project teams. The ability to work in an independent manner under the guidance and direction of a scientist is a required skill. This position also requires the ability to adapt to changes in priorities and focus areas as projects evolve. All objectives and deliverables for the role will be established with the supervisor.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities Promote and maintain a safe working environment Work with scientists to plan and carry out required experiments to advance progress against project objectives Design experiment workflow, communicate observations, perform related measurements, collect & summarize data Preparation of testing specimens, routine operation of standardized testing Prioritize experiments and assist with non-standard experimentation and methods development Maintenance and basic troubleshooting of equipment Develop and update experiment and operational SOPs and related documents (JSAs, etc.) Perform instrument/equipment maintenance and upkeep as needed Assist in the organization and management of lab inventory Required Education and Experience BS in chemistry, chemical engineering or material science or related field Hands-on technical aptitude Highly organized and good attention to detail, rigorous execution, and data accuracy Good at multi-tasking – working on several deliverables at the same time Familiar with basic laboratory equipment and instrumentation Basic knowledge of organic/polymer chemistry Ability to work safely with organic chemicals Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite Desired Experience and Skills 2+ years of industrial or laboratory experience Experience working with coatings and adhesives Experience with mechanical testing (using Instron or similar) Proficient in JMP statistical software in support of experiment data collection and analysis

The range for this position is $64,794.00 - $89,092.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
