Senior Researcher at Fujitsu's Converging Technologies Laboratory (Santa Clara, CA)
The Converging Technologies Laboratory (CT Lab) at Fujitsu specializes in combining research in multiple technical fields to address values in the increasingly diverse society. We are seeking a seasoned professional to increase the impact of our research.
You will independently apply advanced knowledge of scientific research or engineering principles and practices to broad social and environmental areas. As a technical lead or consultant on various projects, you will exhibit creativity, foresight, and mature judgement in conducting research programs. You will devise new approaches to solve complex problems of diverse scope, evangelizing the solutions through rapid prototyping to create engaging touchpoints with tangible results. Strong communication skills are required for interaction with Fujitsu internal business units and external industrial or academic collaboration partners.
Job responsibilities
As an individual contributor, carry out research on topics related to city level analysis and modeling, connecting physical and environmental aspects with human and social behavior. Apply novel approaches leveraging Machine Learning, Generative AI and Large Language Models. Publish research papers in scientific journals and conferences. Develop patentable ideas to strengthen Fujitsu IP portfolio. In a collaborative capacity, assist our research staff to incorporate data from diverse sources in varying formats such as demographics, land use and climate, into our Social Digital Twin pipeline. Support and coordinate teams or individuals in their efforts in enhancing the pipeline, from ingestion through transformation to visualization. In an outreaching role, showcase CT Lab’s work via presentation in talks, conferences, workshops, and competitions. Demonstrate and delineate Converging Technologies’ capabilities in sustainability transformation. Develop peer network to expand technical reach and business development opportunities.
Requirements
PhD degree in Computer Science, or in a cross-disciplinary engineering program, applying computer science concepts or artificial intelligence to tackle problems in the physical, social, or environmental areas. Master’s degree candidates will be considered only with exceptional qualifications and highly relevant experience. Five or more years’ work experience. Experience in geospatial and temporal domains, with working knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) a plus. Track record of coming up with new ideas or improving upon existing ideas in solving environmental and social-economic problems, demonstrated by accomplishments such as publications, patents, projects, or competitions. Ability to supervise, coordinate and review the work of small staff of engineers, scientists, and software developers.
