Senior Resident Project Representative/Resident Engineer

HDR Engineering, Inc. has an immediate opportunity for a Resident Project Representative. The person in this position will be responsible for leading and supervising a field staff in contract management, administration, and coordination of a mid to large size heavy highway construction project. The candidate shall possess a strong background in construction management with residential streets, highways, bridges, utility relocation, distribution water/sewer, trunk water main/ sewer, retaining walls, stormwater pollution prevention implementation, and related facilities. A person in this position is subject to occasional exposure to heavy traffic or adverse weather conditions. There are constant interruptions to the work routine and must be able to think clearly and act quickly under these conditions.

Primary Responsibilities

Lead and supervise the construction inspection teamPlan, prepare, and analyze construction documentsManage construction contracts utilizing Site Manager and Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) software.Supervise the preparation of inspector daily reports for inclusion on contractor progress payment estimates.Direct and assist staff in reviewing and analyzing contractor project schedules, staging plans, traffic control plans, and other required submittals to ensure they meet contract requirements and restrictions.Meet with contractors regularly to plan and coordinate work, resolve issues in work areas, address scheduling concerns and sequence operations, and settle other contract labor compliance and administrative manners.Assign, schedule, direct, supervise, review, and accept the work on behalf of client.Ensure that safety of personnel and the traveling public is paramount in all work activities. Administer contracts in accordance with contract plans and specifications. Oversee the activities of Construction Inspectors, Materials Coordinators, Office Engineers, and administrative personnel.Monitor contractors’ work for compliance to schedule, budget, technical specifications, and legal requirements.Conduct progress meetings and prepare reports on project status.Communicate and implement safety rules, policies, and procedures to contractors and subordinate personnel.Recognize and act promptly on potential changes or additional work to the contract conflicts or ambiguities in the plans and specifications and changes in field conditions.Negotiate, analyze, resolve, settle, deny, and/or make recommendations regarding contractor conflicts and claims considering contract plans and specifications, estimates, conditions, costs, and time. Conduct field visits to examine construction site conditions and issues. Participate actively as a member of the Clients construction team for project delivery.#LI-JS6

Preferred QualificationsProfessional Engineer (PE) license (position title will be changed to Resident Engineer) or Certified Construction Manager (CCM) certificationTDOT construction experienceAbility to interpret construction schedulesAbility to problem solve and provide possible solutions to the engineerLocal candidateRequired QualificationsBachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Technology, or combination of education and relevant experience A minimum of 5 years progressive construction experience on multidisciplinary projects Must have a fundamental understanding of contracts and familiarity with codes and laws governing construction Must possess the ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications and identify discrepancies or conflicts within documents Must be able to work in a team environment Must be computer literate, experience with Microsoft Office, Primavera, or related construction packages Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
