Senior Sales Manager Korea, Battery Materials

*Objectives of the Position:          
To plan and execute direct sales activities with Key Accounts in South Korea as LG ES, Samsung SDI and SK On and grow the business with these in South Korea and globally, with a focus to sell material from BM’s existing production assets in EU, Japan and China. 

Specific responsibilities include to 
a. establish and maintain trustful customer relationships across hierarchical levels,
b. identify needs / target projects of existing and potential customers in terms of material specification, volume demand, SOP date and material/project lifetime, 
c. drive sales activities in coordination with relevant stakeholders within BM (e.g. R&D, Engineering), 
d. proactively share insights on market trends and customers’ needs back to relevant stakeholders in BM in support of BM’s customer orientation, 
e. act as key interface for customer requests as well as engage in operational troubleshooting when required, and 
f. compile and maintain account plans.

 

*Main Tasks:
- Define and lead global key account management activities for key Korean based customers as LG ES, Samsung SDI and SK On to drive sustainable and profitable growth, in alignment with internal stakeholders (e.g. marketing & product management)
- Design and implement strategic sales plans based on customers’ needs to increase the share-of-wallet for existing customers and win new customers, in alignment with internal stakeholders (e.g. marketing & product management)
- Live customer proximity by building strong, long-lasting customer relationships across hierarchical levels and industry networks
- Identify target projects with key Korean based customers, define resource needs and drive organizational efforts towards project wins
- Be in direct routine contact with customers’ key personnel to manage daily interactions and when needed take ownership to resolve problems with the support of other internal functions (lead for coordinating trouble-shooting activities)
- Draft sales documents as management presentations, non-binding term sheets, memorandum of understandings, commercial contracts etc. in alignment with internal stakeholders (e.g. legal, marketing & product management)
- Maintain customer relevant documentation and communication in Salesforce (e.g. customer master data, visit reports)
- Keep strong collaboration with internal stakeholders from R&D, technical sales, engineering teams, marketing and product management, supply chain to compile attractive customer offers
- Maintain up-to-date awareness of market activities, technical development, industry trends, and legislative requirements to provide insights and guide BM division’s sales approach as well as offering and support the overall strategy development
- Share own sales expertise and skills with others to enhance the performance of the BM sales team overall, striving continuously for sales excellence
- Undertake necessary business travels and contribute to meetings, regular communications and exchanges across BM and BASF units
- Engage actively in the activities of TAA (Team Automotive Asia) of BASF
- Be a role model and develop self and others according to BASF’s CORE values 

 

*Minimum Education and Qualification Required for the Position:
- Language: native Korean, English fluent in writing and oral 
- Strong and extensive network within the battery materials and battery cell making industry in Korea 
- Positive personality and strong communicator with the ability to build trustful customer relationships 
- Working experience: more than 10 years sales in Lithium-ion battery or equivalent industry
- Education: Bachelor’s degree or above in Economics, Business Administration, (Electro-)Chemistry or Material Science
