Senior Scala/Java Developer
About the Role: Grade Level (for internal use): 12 The Role: Senior Scala/ Java Developer The Team: Financial Risk Analytics is part of the S&P Global group and provides industry leading risk analytics solutions to sell side and buy side institutions within the financial markets. Risk management and risk regulation is continuously driving demand for more accurate calculations and risk system vendors are continuously striving for improvements in performance and scalability. The product is carefully architected to scale from running on a single laptop for demonstration purposes right through to running on 1,000 core distributed grids. Financial Risk Analytics provides solutions for Credit Risk PFE, Market Risk VaR and sensitivities, Credit Value Adjustment (CVA), Initial Margin (IM) and regulatory calculations. Financial Risk Analytics is currently investing in their technology platform to develop new revenue-generating products, leveraging open-source projects and big data technologies. These include new visualization, risk aggregation and smart data initiatives that address new data, risk, and regulatory requirements and are highly visible and strategic within the organization. These initiatives are using technologies such as Hadoop, Spark, HDFS, HBase, Apache Kafka, Docker, AWS, along with in-house-developed technologies, on Windows and Linux operating systems. This role will specifically be using the following languages and technologies: Scala, Redis, AWS, Python, Docker, Git, Apache NiFi. The Impact: You will be working with multiple time zones, from North America to APCA, and will be fundamental to adding support coverage for internal and external clients. Responsibilities: The successful candidate will work on the Orchestration team where its responsibilities would include: Be an active and collaborative team member as part of an Agile development team of 3-5 people. You will be interacting with several other teams in daily basis. Participate in regular backlog grooming, sprint planning, design and code review meetings, pair programming, sprint reviews and retrospectives, and other team activities. Take ownership of development tasks, including design, development, code reviews, testing and test automation, and documentation of enhancements for applications and services. Produce high-quality work, always following quality standards such as unit testing, integration tests and documented code. Be delivery-focused, have a passion for technology, and enjoy offering new ideas and approaches. Work with distributed teams in multiple locations worldwide. Pitch in wherever needed to deliver a high-quality release to clients on time. Specific responsibilities may be adjusted based on your relative strengths and interests. Support internal and external clients. What We’re Looking For: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience. Minimum 10 years' experience in developing applications using Scala/Java. Proficient with software development lifecycle (SDLC) methodologies like Agile, Test-driven development. Strong interpersonal and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to successfully multi-task. Preference will be given to candidates with experience working with Hadoop ecosystem. Redis. Kafka. Python. Docker, Git, Linux. Experience writing code that is scalable and performant. Good background on leveraging cloud technologies (AWS). Understanding of CI/CD pipelines.
