Senior Scientific Editor, iScience, Cell Press

Cell Press is looking to expand the team of scientific editors working at iScience (https://www.cell.com/iscience), an exciting broad-scope open-access journal publishing in the health, life, social and physical sciences.

We are seeking to add a dynamic and enthusiastic Associate, Scientific or Senior Editor, depending on experience, who shares our passion for helping scientists publish their work in a fair, straightforward and timely way.  

 
Key responsibilities

Assess submitted research papers; Oversee the peer review process for direct submissions and transferred contributions;Recruit exciting research papers for submission to iScience and fostering communities of interest;Establish relationships with researchers; Represent the journal and Cell Press at scientific meetings, and visits to research institutions;   Work collaboratively with academic editorial board members and internal editors; Build effective working relationships with colleagues across Cell Press and beyond. 

This is a permanent, full-time in-house editorial position. The position can be based remotely or hybrid in our office in Amsterdam, NL.

Other locations of Cell Press or Elsevier offices can be considered for exceptional candidates. 
   

What you should bring: 

PhD in a health or life science discipline is a must. We are particularly interested in, but not limited to, candidates with expertise in microbiology, immunology, cancer biology or neuroscience, with a strong clinical or translational scientific background. Previous editorial experience is desirable but not required.  We are open to hire at more senior levels for candidates with appropriate experience. Applicants with a professional background such as running a research group or working in industry are also encouraged to apply.  Broad scientific interests, a desire to learn, and the ability to think critically about a wide range of scientific issues. As a scientific editor, you will need to develop an understanding of the diverse areas covered by the journal, as well as be open to learn about exciting emerging topics. Great interpersonal skills. Collaboration and networking are core aspects of the job.  Strong ability to communicate clearly.  Strong ability to organize, prioritize, and focus. Creativity, willingness to experiment, and desire to improve. The ability to work well in a diverse team is crucial for the position.
