POSITION SUMMARY:
Orchestrate resources to develop and implement best practices and new technologies to deliver on new product programs and apply formulation experience to new sun care products. This position is hybrid at our Allendale, NJ location with 3-4 days per week in the lab/office.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Drive technology developments to proof of principle and reduce to practice in Sun delivery systems
• Drive research testing and method development for Future Sun Technology projects
• Develop new and revised formulations (cosmetic and OTC) to meet marketing plans and regulatory requirements as well as fueling innovation for new opportunities.
• Design and implement sound scientific studies to develop and reformulate products from bench to launch by initiating efficacy and safety testing and working with the pilot scale-up and regulated stability teams.
• Manage multiple projects within resource limits (project timelines, budgets, etc.) by collaborating closely with key functional partners.
• Present research study and investigation (ideation, technical research, prototype, development etc.) in a timely manner to R&D leadership that is coherent and accurately reflects the results.
• Review competitive technical strategies and provide insight into benchmarking initiatives.
• Work with Consumer Insights group to proactively integrate consumer understanding into product development.
• Contribute continuous improvement ideas in the areas of innovation, best practices, and quality.
• Represent company at technical or industry functions.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
• B.S. degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related science or engineering degree
• Minimum of 8 years skin care / emulsion experience (with 1 year in sun care development preferred)
DESIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
• M.S. degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related science or engineering degree
• Strong knowledge of the formulation of sun care/cosmetic products, (O/W emulsions, W/O emulsions, dispersions) including lotions, sprays, gels, sticks
• Demonstrated ability in developing and launching an OTC type product within a timeline; familiarity with sunscreen regulatory elements is a plus
• Experience working in a GMP facility
• Experience formulating global sun care and cosmetic products
• Experience working with external partners and suppliers
• Practical background in statistical evaluations
• Strong knowledge of raw material functions and properties used in the cosmetic industry
• Experience in rheology
• Understanding of and ability to implement aerosol technologies for skin care formulations
• Excellent verbal / written communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to interface with internal and external contacts at all levels.
• Excellent organizational, prioritizing and follow up skills. Ability to handle multiple tasks / projects simultaneously.
• Detailed knowledge of all lab equipment and procedures – ability to modify procedures when necessary.
• Experienced with microscopes, viscometers, pH meters, and lab scale mixers
• Experience screening emulsions under accelerated stability conditions
• Experience using solar simulators and Labspheres to screen sunscreen prototypes
• Ability to work well under pressure, with minimal supervision.
• Ability to think and act independently and make sound decisions.
• Knowledge of patent art, and the ability to read, understand and explain patents is a plus.
• Ability to travel. The position may require travel to contract manufacturing sites, vendors, industry meetings, and external seminars.
The salary range for this position is $84,000 - $126,000. Actual base salary offered to a candidate may vary based upon factors including, but not limited to, relevant experience, time in role, base salary of internal peers, prior performance, business sector, and geographic location. In addition to base salary, the competitive compensation package may include, depending on the role, participation in an incentive program linked to performance.
