POSITION SUMMARY:
We are looking for a Senior Scientist to join our highly collaborative Molecular Biology Research team. As a Senior Scientist, you will plan, design, and execute laboratory research to expand Natera’s oncology product portfolio. For this role, candidates with experience developing NGS assays will be considered, with a preference for a background in oncology.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Contributes substantially and intellectually to research and development. Lead projects to create and develop novel nucleic acid based diagno andstic tests; including planning, testing, protocol development, optimization, and transfer to Development. Responsible for project-associated timeline and deliverable planning and management. Independently develop plans, generate and advance new ideas. Independently design and execute high complexity experiments. Coordinates the execution and analysis of effective experiments with statistics and bioinformatics teams Performs basic data analysis (e.g. R, JMP, Excel). May manage research associates. Very strong communication, analytical and problem-solving skills. Document research progress in reports and presentations. Actively interact and communicate with interdepartmental teams such as Program Management, Bioinformatics, Data Science, Translational Science, and Product. Communicate progress directly with manager and colleagues. Employee must complete training relating to HIPAA/PHI privacy, General Policies and Procedure Must maintain a current status on Natera training requirements. Perform other duties as assigned.QUALIFICATIONS:
Ph.D. with a minimum of 5 - 8 years of industry experience OR 3+ years of industry experience and 2+ years post-doctoral research
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Must have experience with designing, executing, and analyzing data on next generation sequencing (NGS) and DNA molecular biology experiments (preferably with cfDNA). Must have a background in oncology. Experience with automation is a plus. Epigenetic/methylation, target enrichment, cfDNA experience is a plus. Track record of originating, developing and productizing novel nucleic acid techniques and tests. Strong research skills with a history of innovation. Must have excellent communication, organizational, record-keeping, planning, time management, analytical and problem-solving skills. Demonstrated experience in managing and providing basic level of leadership to research associates and junior scientists. Demonstrated success in applying independent scientific judgment in experimental design and analysis. Bioinformatic capabilities, programming (e.g. python) and databases experience (SQL) are a plus. Skilled at writing clear plans, reports and SOPs. The pay range is listed and actual compensation packages are based on a wide array of factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, years & depth of experience, certifications and specific office location.
