Job Description
Our company has a rapidly growing interdisciplinary team of scientists in London and exciting plans to expand our London presence, initially at The Francis Crick Institute as part of our ‘Skylab’ expansion, and from 2027 in our new state-of-the-art London Discovery Research Centre and UK Headquarters at the hub of London’s Knowledge Quarter. This will be home to approximately 180 scientists alongside other colleagues in clinical, regulatory and business roles, including marketing, finance and administration.
We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Scientist in Stromal Immunology. This role requires full-time presence in the lab, onsite at The Francis Crick Institute in Central London.
In this role, you will identify unmet medical needs, evaluate and apply novel experimental approaches and impact basic research and translational medicine.
Working collaboratively with our discovery teams at the Francis Crick Institute and the London Bioscience Innovation Centre you will apply cutting edge lab technologies and Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning tools to identify drug discovery targets for potential medicines that could tackle inflammatory/autoimmune diseases and improve our understanding of how our potential new therapies and medicines work at a cellular and molecular level in the patients we serve.
What you will do:
Design and conduct experiments to elucidate the functions of key disease cell types using primary human tissue and cells, devising and executing in vitro cell models, conducting genetic and pharmacological perturbation experiments to identify high-quality drug targets and testing biologic therapeutics in complex cell models.Analyse and interpret complex dataset to identify and validate novel targets in immunology, inflammation, autoimmunity by leveraging your deep understanding of immunology and/or stromal biology.Integrate in vitro and in vivo approaches to allow progress of multiple programs.Conceptualise and enact innovative approaches (including novel technologies) to solve program objectives and issues.Manage project-specific milestones and timelines.Take part in communicating science and strategy to key stakeholders and management.Collaborate effectively both internally & externally, within and across functional areas.Demonstrates a “one-team” mindset by proactively engaging in and leadership of lab and department initiatives.Actively participates in cultural initiatives & embraces DE&I principles, promotes psychological safety and supports a work environment that positively influences others and enables all to bring their true selves to work.What you will need to be successful in this role:
Required Experience:
PhD, or MSc or a BSc Biological Sciences degree with biotech/pharma experience.Demonstrable experience in immunology and strong practical experience in performing and analysing complex multicellular systems.Hands-on experience with developing and executing in vitro cell based assays, especially with complex ex vivo or in vitro models.Proven ability to independently design, implement and interpret complex immune cell assays using advanced multi-parametric cellular detection systems such as high content imaging and spectral flow cytometry and associated analytical software solutions.In-depth knowledge and experience of molecular biology and gene editing would be an advantage.Proven ability to troubleshoot, interpret and analyse data from key biological, biochemical and immunological assays systems and design appropriate follow up experiments.Skills/Competencies:
