**Job Description Summary**

**POSITION SUMMARY:**
The Sr Scientist 1 Antibody Technologies will contribute to the research and development of monoclonal antibodies at our R&D site in San Diego. This position reports to the Manager of Antibody Technologies, R&D San Diego and works closely with the members of the R&D Antibody Technologies team. This individual will be responsible for animal immunization and hybridoma development to support the antibody discovery program. This position requires extensive hands-on experience with immunization of mice and rats, antibody development techniques, tissue culture and familiarity with flow cytometry.
**RESPONSIBILITIES:**
The Sr Scientist 1 –Antibody Technologies will support the Immunization and Antibody Development workstream in our antibody discovery program
+ Responsible for designing, planning and performing mouse and rat immunization campaigns using a variety of immunogens and immunization strategies
+ Responsible for extracting bleeds from mice and rats for serum titration screening
+ Responsible for splenocyte extraction, preparation, and hybridoma fusion using both chemical and electrofusion
+ Responsible for working closely with immunogen development and flow screening teams to support new antibody development pipeline.
+ Designs strategies and experiments to support immunization program, hybridoma development, and clone selection
+ Performs experiments, troubleshoots, analyzes data and reviews results within a team setting
+ Performs cell culture and human, mouse, rat tissue preparation for flow cytometry experiments
+ Day-to-day problem-solving and cross-functional team-based activities to ensure that daily operations and timelines are met.
+ Independently analyze research data, solve problems with minimal guidance and effectively plan follow-up experiments. Will be expected to efficiently prioritize individual workload.
+ Involvement with scheduling, operational and maintenance duties required within the laboratory.
+ Review and approval of data, drafting appropriate protocols, reports, batch records and process documents as required.
+ Responsible for supporting Manager in coordinating and collaborating across sites and subject areas to facilitate efficient resource sharing and flexibility to respond to business growth opportunities.
+ Responsible for training and mentoring junior and senior level scientists to support antibody development and site expansion efforts
+ Will collaborate and coordinate with other R&D functions to meet business objectives and timelines
+ Assists in development of documentation and process and equipment validation in accordance with ISO13485 standards. Assures maintenance of documentation and equipment in line with quality standards.
+ Will identify and lead continuous improvement projects to improve the product development process and create proprietary and innovative advantages to our products and processes.
+ Maintain strong understanding of innovative technology development in the industry to drive process improvements to improve workstream efficiency. Bring new R&D technologies and best practices into the business.
+ Effectively coordinate and collaborate with other functional areas associated with R&D activities, including HR, Quality, Marketing, Manufacturing, etc.
+ Promote a safe work environment. Participates in all Environmental, Health & Safety programs. Notifies appropriate company representatives of all hazardous conditions or unsafe work practices.
**POSITION REQUIREMENTS (AS APPLICABLE):**
**EDUCATION:**
+ A Bachelor’s or Master of Science degree in Immunology, Biology or related subject area with 7+ years of industry or relevant experience
+ PhD in Immunology or closely related Life Sciences subject area with 3+ years of industry or relevant experience preferred
**EXPERIENCE:**
+ Strong knowledge of Immunology, immuno-oncology, Animal Sciences
+ Extensive experience in immunization of mouse and rats for antibody development
+ Demonstrated experience culturing a variety of mammalian cell lines and preparing human, mouse and rat tissues for hybridoma development
+ Demonstrated experience developing monoclonal antibodies in mouse and rat
+ Demonstrated experience with mouse and rat husbandry.
+ Experience with flow cytometry for hybridoma screening strongly preferred.
+ Experience with lab automation and high throughput liquid handlers strongly preferred
+ Experience working in a global team or collaborating globally highly desired.

+ Developed organizational, time management, and planning skills to efficiently manage multiple projects necessary
+ Highly motivated and takes initiative to independently lead antibody discovery and continuous improvement projects
+ Effective interpersonal skills and must be able to work in a cross-functional team-oriented environment to achieve organizational goals.
+ Strong understanding of immunology, cell biology
+ Demonstrated excellence in oral, and written communication skills.
+ Demonstrated analytical problem solving

+ Knowledge of product development process improvement. Understanding of fully automated systems for research and clinical laboratories desirable.

$99,000.00 - $163,300.00 USD Annual
