The Senior Scientist in the Sequencing group will work cross-functionally on providing sequencing support, focusing on methods optimization, development, and implementation. Responsibilities also include investigating automated sample and library preparation solutions for NGS platforms using Cepheid’s GeneXpert system. This role will collaborate with various teams, including Cepheid’s R&D, Medical and Scientific Affairs, Clinical Affairs, and Engineering teams.
In this role, the successful candidate will work collaboratively across multiple departments and teams in the development of these methods, as well as with outside collaborators. In addition to technical qualifications, the ideal candidate will be self-motivated, inquisitive, organized, and able to thrive in the face of ambiguity.
Opportunities to align the role with broader company strategy will come through mentorship, participation in key meetings, and exposure to strategic discussions. Taking on greater responsibility in high-visibility programs will open up growth opportunities.
This position is part of the Assay Research - Sequencing Group and will be located in Sunnyvale, CA, Onsite. At Cepheid, our vision is to be the leading provider of seamlessly connected diagnostic solutions.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
+ Develop protocols, execute sequencing workflows ensuring smooth operations, and manage sample tracking throughout the process to support internal teams.
+ Independently develop strategies and experimental plans for investigating and advancing novel techniques employing the GeneXpert platform, ensuring alignment with project requirements and scope.
+ Analyze and interpret technical data to support informed decision-making and robust experimental planning.
+ Work independently and as part of a team in a cross-disciplinary environment, serving as mentor and facilitator, embracing opportunities for growth and learning.
+ Maintain detailed records and present results and findings.
The essential requirements of the job include:
+ Experience establishing and managing NGS facilities/operations, encompassing inventory management, sample tracking, quality control, and data organization.
+ In-depth knowledge and experience with molecular biology techniques including nucleic acid purification/quantitation, PCR, RNA processing, and electrophoresis
+ Detail-oriented, proactive, and innovative problem solver capable of overcoming challenges and complex issues in a fast-paced environment.
+ Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team in a cross-disciplinary environment.
+ Bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry, biochemistry or related field with multiple years experience.
It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:
+ Bioinformatics concepts, Linux environments, visualization and analytical tools such as R/Plotly
+ Experience developing assays with Cepheid’s GeneXpert system

The salary range for this role is $103,000 to $160,000 USD. This is the range that we in good faith believe is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.
This job is also eligible for bonus/incentive pay.
