Senior Scientist
**Job Title** : Senior Scientist I **Reports To:** Director of Research & Development **Major Focus** : Coatings specialist responsible for ideation and implementation of novel, scalable synthetic strategies for next-generation anticorrosion coating of electrochemical components. Integrate novel methodologies with Mott core Clean Energy technologies. Develop, execute, and refine fabrication processes to drive new products from lab scale to production scale in cooperation with Mott process engineering team. Engage with multi-insitutional research teams to communicate key results, resolve issues, and manage material and informational handoffs. Mott is poised for **significant expansion over the next 5 years.** **_Key Responsibilities:_** 1. Develop coating technology to drive creation of new products, including advanced electrolysis cell components based on Mott’s core porous metal technologies. 2. Operate, maintain and improve apparatus for coating growth and deposition using thermochemical processes. 3. Lead structural and chemical characterization of components and coatings using advanced spectroscopic methods. 4. Interpret ex-situ corrosion and cell test data using structural and chemical insights derived from advanced characterization methods. **_Major Challenges:_** 1. Prioritization and sequencing of fabrication, characterization, and testing of novel materials under aggressive timelines and against challenging technical objectives. 2. Oversight of multiple tasks with varying priorities, goals, protocols, and durations in a fast-paced environment. 3. Organization, management, and synthesis of of test data into actionable, statistically meaningful information. **_Expected Performance Outcomes:_** 1. Ideation and implementation of novel, scalable synthetic strategies for next-generation electrochemical cell components. 2. Integration of novel methodologies with Mott core porous metal component production, leading to new products. 3. Generation and capture of intellectual property from sponsored and internal research. 4. Timely attainment of internal and sponsor-driven technical milestones. 5. Regular interactions with internal and external stakeholders to communicate and resolve technical issues. **_Required Experience_** **_:_** 1. PhD in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Applied Physics, or other field relevant to growth and characterization of functional anticorrosion coatings. 2. 2+ years of experience synthesizing and characterizing novel material systems (inclusive of graduate research). **_Technical Knowledge/Skills_** **_:_** 1. Mastery of materials chemistry, surface phenemona, and physical metallurgy concepts and practices. 2. Adherence and continuous improvement of safe laboratory work practices. 3. Experience with hazard analysis, design, setup, use, and improvement of high-temperature materials synthesis apparatus. 4. Broad technical knowledge of structural and chemical materials characterization methods, particularly related to surfaces and coatings. 5. Experience with data processing and analysis (preferably using Python) 6. Basic experience with electronics and electronic components **_Non-Technical Skills:_** 1. Clear, concise English communication of complex technical concepts and data interpretation in specialized and general technical contexts. 2. Attention to detail, particularly in data acquisition, analysis, and interpretation. 3. Persistence when faced with setbacks. 4.
