Position Description:Lead assigned human nutrition projects within ADM’s Global Regulatory and Scientific Affairs (RSA) function.Develop and communicate science-based information and positions, and provide scientific guidance to key internal stakeholders for Foundational Ingredients (Oils, Carbohydrates – Starches, Nutritive and Non-Nutritive Sweeteners, Proteins, Fiber etc), and their applications in Food and Beverage, Dietary Supplements.Work closely with Research & Development (R&D), Commercial, Marketing, Govt. Affairs, Legal, and Senior Management on ADM’s legacy/foundational ingredients, nutrition, labeling, claims, and other emerging scientific and regulatory issues of interest to protect and enable business growth.Partner with Regulatory Affairs to develop and deploy global human nutrition strategies focused on food nutrition policy issues such as processed foods, food systems, front-of-pack labeling and ingredient reputation.Embed regulatory expertise into ADM’s processes on human nutrition and train research personnel about regulatory considerations regarding bridging nutrition research to product launch.Work closely with other SMEs on nutrition, quality, safety, toxicology and other disciplines as needed.Key Responsibilities:Partner with R&D to build regulatory considerations from concept through launch, including those that touch on issues of safety, quality/purity, definitions, permissibility, nutrition labeling, and claims.Conduct systematic review of scientific articles and available data to substantiate intended health, content, or structure/function claims.Design, implement, and analyze clinical trials related to nutrition and health outcomes.Support Novel Food dossiers as needed, including those manufactured through Precision Fermentation.Keep current on key developments in via literature reviews, meeting attendance, and participation in trade association activities so that potential impact to ADM business can be regularly examined and addressed.Develop and maintain strong external and internal scientific networks, and work with R&D to establish scientific opinions that benefit and further ADM’s innovation and growth strategies on a global scale.Focus on strategy and specialized expertise for efficient delivery of regulatory science and achievement of permissibility for products according to their intended use and for the markets in which they are sold.Create and lead aligned scientific messaging, and represent the business in key external organizations on human nutrition, to create a science based global regulatory environment.Ensure that issues, trends, risks and opportunities on human nutrition are appropriately communicated to stakeholders, and help guide the business.Evaluate government, scientific and industry positions to advance policy, scientific and regulatory understanding consistent with ADM‘s mission and objectives.Requirements:MS or PhD in Human Nutrition or Biotechnology. Desired experience of 5+ years for Scientist; 15+ for Sr. Scientist.Experience with regulatory approval of ingredients with focus on regulatory science/scientific affairs.Strong understanding of global regulatory landscape and product approval process.Proficiency in substantiation of scientific claims.Strong critical thinking, organization, writing and communication skills are needed, together with ability to plan and execute projects utilizing a variety of resources. Ability to lead through ambiguity, take initiative, strong and demonstrated data management and project management skills cross-functionally.
